HELP! Is this normal?

Recommended Posts

HI, i just had the surgery on May18th and its now May24th and im not as sore as before thank god. Ive been reading other people's posts and everyone seems to be back to normal after the 3rd or 4th day. Im still feeling some soreness inside on my right side. Is this normal? ?? Im also noticing that im hungry and after im not having any problems drinking the shakes. I've also been reading that some people are forcing down the shakes... i feel like im the same.. i am getting full quicker , but im not full for that long. I woke up starving this morning!! I know i havent had my first adjustment yet..but im not sure if this is normal. Can anyone help me here? I would really appreciate it, because i feel soo scared that something is wrong. ..ohh and ive also been eating watermelon.. is that ok?

Thanks!

You are normal, and NO...watermelon is not ok! It's not considered a liquid...I can't have any fruit until 7 weeks post - op. Did your Dr. give you a list of acceptable foods?

no noting is wrong with you. not all people react the same post op. some people might just have some swelling making it harder for liquids to go down. i have also read from some people on this site that the band itself can be enough restriction for weight loss. i was able to eat solids by the 2nd week. not that i ate them a lot i just had a weak moment and was starving. so don't worry that you aren't recovering just like everyone else.

Don't worry too much and DONT eat watermelon - I had surgery on the 12th, felt pretty good around the 4th day mark but now I feel sore again, mainly because I went shopping 2 days in a row (walked slow) but felt like I overdid it, so now I'm sore again. Try to stick to the liquids, it's to help your stomach recover from the swelling, theres a reason your not supposed to eat for about a month.

I was feeling good by day 4 but still not 100% I didn't feel really good until about my 2nd week. It took me awhile to be able to sleep on my left side because of pain. I am at 3 weeks now and am almost 100% better although if I bend the wrong way too quickly my port site is still a little tender.

I feel no restriction and feel like I can eat anything, but I have been being careful because I don't want to risk messing anything up. I think others just have more swelling and some doctors put a small fill in at the time of surgery. One thing I have learned from this forum is how different we all are when it comes to this band. Good luck on your journey!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
