Possibility of geting Band removed w/a Revision

Recommended Posts

Hello

I was banded on 8/14/06 and have had problems w/the band since Jan 08. I've had several fills and un-fills and nothing has been working. In November I was rushed to the Emergency room w/complicated pneumonia and Fluid on my right lung that was attributed to acid reflux and in December 08 I had an endoscope and it's been shown I have a hernia as well.

My lap-band dr would like to do one of two things

1. Replace and re-position the lap band + repair hernia

2. Do a Revision to one of the gastrics + repair hernia

I've been reading up. I have about 80-90 pounds that I need to still lose and I don't know what gastric surgery is best for me. I'm still up in the air. I'm just worried that if he re-does the lap band I'll come back with 2x worst acid reflux than before....

Anyone here have had the gastric and the sleeve done if so how are you doing on weight loss and other things?

There are a lot of us who have had revision surgery to a sleeve. Go to the sleeve section of the board and you can read everyone's story. The sleeve section is almost at the bottom when you go to forums.

I am thrilled to have my band out and never have to worry about fills or unfills.

Hi

Just found out today my band has to come out and we are looking at a revision. My surgeon wants me to do a rny due to my complications with ulcers, gastritis, etc. I gained 20lbs since they let everything out of it 4 months ago and have to have another endoscopy to ensure my ulcers have healed. I am seriously considering the revision and not just a removal because I know I will gain the weight back. How are you coming with your decision?

Had my band out last year, and I had a RNY.

Been great for me; at my perfect weight now! :(

Look at ALL the options. The sleeve is a good one, but so is the RNY. They all have their positives and negatives. You need to really do the research and figure out whether you need restriction (like the band/sleeve) or Malabsorbtion/Restriction) RNY.

See WasABubbleButt and OregonDaisy over in the new sleeve section....they're smart people who have gone from the Band to the Sleeve and can give you their experienced outlook.

BUT.....you've taken the first step, getting the Plastic Noose off your stomach!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
