Dadgummit!!!!! I've joined the initial port removal club,

Recommended Posts

I had my band put in April 28. I had a great initial recovery never vomited was only vaguely nauseated during recovery r/t sweet propel Water given and fruit punch flavored Liquid Protein. I had minimal pain except in port wound which was well controlled w/ Lortab elixir. The next day I walked around the block, I felt great. Then I went for my 1 week postop visit the Phys ASSt. said my wound looked a little red and had me come back in 3 days. Day 9 I was leaking clear Fluid that was odorless, phoned DR. and described wound also, at this point it did not seem too bad, had appt next day & another PA looked at wound and said it did not look as bad as other PA described it and continue to express fluid while in shower. Went back next week and PA called Dr. to come in and look at wound & prescribed Augmentin & come back in 4 days. I kept taking med but got worse & by visit Dr. did ultra sound and 7cm fluid pocket found that was un drainable and here I am next day awaiting surgery to getting port removed and I am as mad as hell. Dr. C. says he has only had one of thesein last 300 surgeries and I am an RN! This just is not supposed to happen. Dr. C. says recovery will take about 6 weeks and will have have to pack my open wound until it heals Ugghh!!!:angry::laugh:

I had to have my port removed and put in on the other side. Be careful with the wound, mine is an ongoing problem. The port on the left side is absolutely no problem. Good luck.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
