Restricted and Hungry - SO CONFUSED!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I was banded on 3/18. I've had 4 fills since my surgery and now have 6ccs in a 10 cc band.

I can't eat anything for Breakfast or lunch without getting stuck and PBing. So I've been doing liquids. It seems that no matter what time of the day I have my first meal of solids I get stuck. No amount of chewing slowly, taking small bites or eating slowly seems to help. I am at my wits end.

Once evening time rolls around I have no issues eating and I'm starving. I just wanted to know if this is normal and what's the best way to get through this.

I'm not keen on getting another fill because I'm so restricted early in the day but once evening rolls around I'm ravenous.

Please help!!!

4 fills in 8 weeks seems really aggressive. My doctor has told me that some people are tight in the am, some are tight in the pm - everyone is different. If you're tight in the am, he suggested drinking warm liquids like coffee or hot choc. He doesn't like anyone being filled too tight and you feeling like you're constatnly on a diet. Being too tight can possibly cause errosion, and a number of other issues you don't want. I'm not usually able to eat until 9 or 10 am but dr. says that's normal for some. If you're able to eat in the pm and not get dehydrated, that's a good sign but I'd still talk to your doctor about maybe unfilling just a little Fluid. It's amazing how as little as .1 or .2 cc can make such a difference.

Also - I've had a hard time distinguishing between true tummy hunger and head hunger. Just because it's morning and usually breaksfast time for most, doesn't mean I need to eat. Same with lunch - I hear people using the micro at lunch and think, "oh, it's time to eat". I have to reminded myself a lot to only eat when truly hungry. I've also had to not allow myself to get too hungry because then I eat too fast and take bigger bites than I should. It's a journey and learning process. Don't be so eager to lose the weight so fast. Do what's best for you. You'll get there. I don't have a ton of weight to lose but I'm just as anxious as the next person but also don't want to sacrifice my long term success.

You don't need another fill, and you probably need an unfill. You should be able to eat solids. If you get a slight unfill so that you are able to eat real food during the day, you won't be so ravenous at night.

I'm not in a rush to lose weight quickly I'm just trying to figure out the band. It's crazy how in the morning I can't eat anything and then evening rolls around and I'm wide open. That's what my post is about. Why are there such extremes??

My suggestion would be to try and get your Protein in the am's and early afternoon in the form of liquids weather it be Protein Shakes or Water with added protein, it really does shake off the hunger. Sip them slowly but continuously thoughout the day. When dinner time rolls around prime your band with a cup of hot tea, then progress with your meal. If you find that you can not get in adequate protein then i would suggest a slight unfill. As long as you are able to get in the required amount of protein, with a portion of it being a solid protein for dinner with out having any issues you should be able to ride this fill out till the restriction lessens up a little, wich it will do as you drop some pounds.

Thanks so much Kelin Tx!

I've been drinking tea in the am followed by a Protein Shake or Water with Protein and Crystal Light. I'm pretty tight up until about 4 or 5 and then BAM! I can eat anything. I have been careful about eating mainly Proteins followed by veg. I'm just worried about the amount of protein I'm able to consume once the band has opened up. I worry that I maybe eating too much even.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
