Incision taking too long to heal!!! but not infected?!

Recommended Posts

I was banded on April 16 and my incision port has still not healed!? About a week after my surgery I had some drainage that was clear in color, and what was "melted fat" from my body trying to create a capsule around the port. That stopped about a week ago but the incision is still not healed...there is about less than a cm of the original incision that seems to refuse to heal! It is not infected, but it seems that it just doesn't want to heal completely!! Has this happenned to anyone else? What can be done to faciltate healing?

I didn't have anything like that, but my girlfriend in Chattanooga, who was banded April 5, had a similar problem. Her port incision has slowly narrowed down to a small bit at one place and it just has to finish healing at its own pace. You'll be fine! We all heal differently, and this is just your body's way of dealing with it.

Some of us just heal a little slower than others but that is not necessarily a problem. This is especially true for some of us with other health issues such as diabetes. However, you should always be looking for any potential signs of infection such as extra redness, swelling, discomfort, etc.

I would suggest giving your doctor a call just to be on the safe side. Other than that, keeping the incision clean and following your wound care instructions for the first days out should help facilitate healing. Some of us are cleared to swim or take baths by this time, but I wouldnt suggest it if you still have an open incision.

Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
