Hello All, I was wondering...If you eat and feel full but still continue to eat, will that cause slipage of the band?

I caught myself overeating the other day, I felt full but

kept eating cuz it was so gooood. But when I think about it

being able to fit into a size 12 will be much better than anything that I can ever eat! Sorry for rambling on and on, just typing out loud!

Slippages don't happen that easily. Overeating is many times more likely to cause a PB...which I'd just as soon do without. If you seriously overate, I'm surprised it didn't all just come right back up. Consider yourself lucky on this one and try not to do it again....next time might be out in public where a PB would be nothing if not embarrassing!

I don't know for sure, I am pre-banded and new, but from what I heard, it is a lot of puking that can cause slippage. And since over-eating can cause the PBing, they want you to not over-eat. (Besides it's defeating the purpose!)

Weight Watchers gave me the mantra "nothing tastes as good as thin feels" and I have been trying to remember it.

Thanks to the both of you! I dont normally over eat any more. I had treated my daughter and I to some chinease and it just was the best thing I ever ate after being on liquids and mushies for so long!

I started to have slippage, my doctor explained to me that "slippage" is caused when you loose weight very fast, and he'll have to go back in a restitch it in place, it can also be caused by vomiting too much. This happened to me, I didn't realize it for 11 weeks, I just thought i was eating too much, or eating to fast, or not chewing enough, but when i couldn't hold Water down I knew i had to call. I had an upper GI and nothing would pass through the band, so they completely deflated my band and I was back on liquids for 10 days, after that I had another upper GI and everything seems good, so they refilled me, and everything has been great since then.

So, was your slippage caused by vomiting too much or was your vomiting a result of the slippage? Glad you are OK now!!

A couple of observances. (1) You don't say if you have a 10cc or a 14cc band -- and 7cc in a 14cc band might only just be approaching your sweet spot. (2) You obviously didn't get all 7ccs in one fill, so you've been to your doctor's office a few times. What have they said about your poor weight loss? I personally think you need to make an appointment to go in and (maybe) get another fill, but more importantly TALK seriously about what might or might not be going on. That's all part of the after care.

Doctor told me it was from loosing weight very fast and from vomiting too much. He also told me that when the band "slips" it doesn't really slip, that its basically your real stomach protruding over the band. It was all really confusing, but I'm all fixed now! :frown:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
