Belly button hernia....could it affect band?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if anyone out there has this hernia. I have had it forever, but since I have lost weight, I can feel it even more. It seems alot larger. I am just wondering if it can push against the stomach and cause problems with the band. My stomach sticks out in the front and hanging skin all around....yuck! The problem is that I don't have health insurance so I can't get it fixed.

I had a hernia repaired the same time as my band.... it came back even bigger within a couple of months. I asked my surgeon if it could be affecting my band and he told me probably not. I had a CT scan, and he took a look at it. He told me it is not affecting the band in any way (as they usually don't...according to him) If in doubt... you might want to get Dr K's opinion the next time you come to town (or give him a call and ask his general opinion on these hernias.)

I doubt it will affect the band, its the hiatus hernias that cause problems.

I have something similar, I have small hernias at each end of my ceasar scar - I had NO idea I had them till I lost weight, now it almost looks like I have testicles, lol. I was really alarmed one day when I pushed one and it squelched. So lovely to know your bowel is showing!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
