I Need a Boost-Me-Up- Please Help

Recommended Posts

Well, my parents found out my plans to get the Sleeve in Mexico with Dr. Aceves. Wow did I get a full attack.

I feel so bad right now. They got on me about going to Mexico, that I am crazy. I tried to explain that I've researched and have been talking to all of you and I am confident in the doctor and hospital. Still they came back saying the internet is all lies. They argued that anyone on these chats and forums could be by people who are paid to promote it. I offered all my research and for them to view Dr. A's website, but it was no use.

They went on and on about how I may have complications in the future and why am I going to risk my life for this.

Can you believe they even attacked my husband. He is the greatest man ever and he supports me 100%. They feel he doesn't realy love me if he's going to let me do this; he must only care about looks. That is NOT true. My husband loves me no matter what size I am. I am doing this for me; for my happiness and health.

I know my parents are just being parents and they love me. And I know I am an adult and the most important opinions are from me and my husband. But I've always been a family girl, and the fact that they are fighting me and see this surgery as only resulting is a negative way really hurts me.

Now I am even doubting myself. Am I doing the right thing. Is Mexico and Dr. A right (I can't afford it here in the states). Will this decision make my life Hell later due to problems. My heart says GO for it, but now my head is swimming.

I really need a boost right now.

Rose

Hi Rose,

This all sounds like my family a month ago when I went for my sleeve. I'm from a big family and told my family that I was going abroad to have the sleeve, one by one I got told off by everyone.

I'm from the Uk and on 24th March I had the sleeve in Czech Republic through Cosmetic Bliss. WhenI was leaving even my husband said this is you decision I don't want you to do this. I think he was worried if anthing happened to me out there he will not be able to live with it which, is understandable when you've been with them for a long time.

I still went ahead and it's the best thing I ever did I wish I had done it earlier and now my family are all happy with me as they can see the difference in me.

Don't worry about it they will all be happy when they see the difference in you as mine did.

All the best

[i can attest to the fact that Daisy, Susan, WASA, Mac, myself, and others do NOT work for Dr. Aceves.

Dr. Aceves isn't even my surgeon.

But I did my research and I think Dr. A and Dr. Rumblaut are two of the best surgeons in Mexico.

If you would like me to copy and paste or email all the incredible information on Dr. A credentials that WasA sent me, I would be happy to do it. He is better than a lot of American doctors . That is for sure!

After reading all of this, my daughter who is an RN, felt a lot better about putting my life in his hands.

Yes, they are saying things out of ignorance. But, in reality they are scared and feel guilty for a lot of things. They don't want to feel guilty if you die.

I know, I'm a parent. And I have a child who needs to have it done. But, I won't push too hard, not because I don't know it is the right thing, but because of fear and guilt.

My wife, is going in late June to Dr. Aceves. I did a lot of research, and he was my pick. Frankly, there are people who are cheaper even in the US, but in reality, my wife won't be someones learning curve or ginny pig....so I'm very comfortable with our decision.

People who dont have weight problems dont understand what it is like. That being said, I too am slightly afraid of Mexico and am glad I have insurance to pay for my procedure. I know they have had great results and many people on LBT are testimants to that. I just worry about follow up care and complications. Have you checked with your insurance to see if there is any possibility you can get payment for a procedure? Just do your homework and you will make the right decision. Your parents will not likely change their mind, which is made mostly of fear and love for you, but they will get used to it eventually.

You are right. People who don't have weight problems don't understand.

Most of my coworkers know I am doing the surgery and I have to lose 10lbs before I can get a surgery date. So what does one do? Bring me brownies today. WTF? I love her dearly, she is really one of my best friends but geez. I don't think she was trying to sabotage me, she was really just being nice. She has always been skinny so she doesn't get it I think. I really should not eat "even one" brownie.

There is another skinny coworker who looked shocked when I told her I was having surgery. She doesn't think I need it. I am 90lbs overweight with hypertension and I don't need it? I a sure she was just thinking stop stuffing your face and you will be fine.

A heavy coworker I have is uncomfortable talking about it but I think that is their own issues. Another heavy coworker thought it was scary to think of "doing that to your body" but she didn't say it in a negative way, just being honest. I am thinking what are you and I doing every day to our hearts and our joints?

Some people are supportive I guess and some are not. I am lucky the most important person, my husband, is all for whatever it is that I think is best for me.

Oh dear I have my date now I am officially the 28th of May, and have to lose 10lbs by then. Which I will do but the first person who brings me brownies at work better run fast! LOL... I have a heavy coworker who started looking into this with me, she is ending up going for the gastric bypass because the doctor thinks it is best for her, but since we have been going through this I have been trying really hard to be concious of what I eat, but man she has been going like each meal is the last supper. I dont get that, but I guess I am glad I dont. Good luck to you.

CONGRATS!!! That's fantastic. You get your life back!

I'm really happy for you! Are you excited?

No worries about last dinner. We all go through it. I could tell you not to do it but you will anyway. Just keep remembering that you WILL eat those foods again, you are getting a sleeve and NOT a band! ;o)

I love the sleeve concept....I accept the sleeve brother nomination!!!!

My wife doesn't ever go on line. She isn't allowed to at work and at home, she just doesn't want to work on a computer.

I'm on a lot because I have to sit all day doing nothing, but wait for people. I'm lucky, working out for a couple of hours a day just helps get rid of the boredom.

what kind of work do you do that you sit around all day?

Tell your wife she would enjoy the support once she gets her sleeve and teach her how to find us. I bet she will be glad she did.

Corporate Pilot. I usually fly somewhere for about 45 minutes, then sit around for 12 hours and fly home 45 minutes.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
