Sore, bloated and hungry

Recommended Posts

Just need some input here. Had lapband surgery yesterday and am very sore today, which is to be expected. My upper abdomen feel hard, also. Is this normal, too? Also, I am hungry already. Is it way too soon to start mushies? Whenever I smell food, I want some.

It's normal to be hungry. I don't know if the "hard upper abdomen" is normal; I didn't mash mine. And YES it is too soon to start mushies unless your doc prescribed post op diet says you can have them day 2.

They pump your abdomen full of gas when they do the surgery. Until it gets absorbed and excreted, your abdomen can feel hard. Hungry. Well, it's much too soon for mushy foods but if you aren't restricted to Clear Liquids, try beef broth, chicken broth, SF yogurt, SF popsicles, SF Jello. If you feel up to it, make your own chicken and beef stock....it's definitely going to taste better than the canned or boxed stuff. All you have to do is cover the chicken or inexpensive roast cut with Water. Add carrots, potatoes, chopped up celery, seasonings, a bay leaf, onion....and simmer it until the chicken falls off the bones or the beef is falling apart. Strain off all the solids and drink the liquids!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
