Help! After first fill questions...

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I just went in for my first fill, he told me I had 1 cc in my band from surgery and he added another 3 cc's today. I took a sip of Water at the office and all seemed fine, but I'm now back to work and every sip of water I take is followed by a strange gurgling sound and some pain, in the middle of my chest where the band is. It only lasts for a couple of minutes and then the water must be making it's way through the band I'm assuming, but is this normal?? Is it because it was just done an hour ago and needs time to settle?

Yes it is normal. After a fill you will be a little swollen. The gurgling sound is the Water passing through and the pain is likely to be from the swelling. No need to fret :) You should follow you dr.'s post fill procedure, my told me liquids for 1 1/2 days after fill.

Mornin' Ready!

I'm on my third fill, so I think I may be able to help you...you should be on liquids for the first 24 hours after a fill - sometimes there's a bit of swelling, which can make the band feel tighter.

After the first 24, test a mushie food - something soft. If it goes down okay, you may be able to go to mushies for another 24 hours. Sometimes you'll need an extra day depending on how sensitive your body is to fills.

Once mushies stay down okay, then you can ease back into solid food. Realize, though, that after a fill, you have MORE restriction, so a solid food that went down easily pre-fill may NOT go down at all after a fill. Take it easy, refresh yourself on the bandster rules (no drinking with meals, chew everything very, very, very thoroughly, and stop when you feel full), and you should be fine.

If, however, you are having trouble with liquids after 24 - 48 hours, call your doctor - it's NOT normal to be having trouble with liquids and it could mean you are TOO full. Since this is your first fill, it's better to call your doctor TOO much than too little until you get used to the feeling.

Good luck - come back and let me know how you're doing!:)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
