Well I am home, surgery went well and the doctor found a small hiatal hernia and repaired it while he was in there.

I am not too sore, the repair hurts the most, along with some air trapped under the diaphragm that is hurting my shoulder.

I opted to stay the night in the hospital last night just incase I had any problems.

So far the worst part of all this is the crushing of the medications. They taste so bad. If anyone as any suggestions on how to make it a bit more tolerable I would love to hear them.

Take care,

Wendy

i had to crush tylenol today for the first time, I chased it down with a small bit of juice- that helped cover the taste.

Hope you have a speedy recovery! Congrats!

Hi there redhead

Welcome and congrats on your surgery. Hope your recovery is fast and smooth.

There's a forum for all the April bandster's HERE - in case you'd like to share experiences with others of us being banded at around the same time. It's a wonderful place for support.

Also, you've been added to the list of April bandsters HERE. (please check that I have the right surgery date - 20th? - it is hard because of the day and time difference between Australia [where I am] and the US)

just a word of warning !!!!! for others ........, dont try attempt to take meds without crushing ... I did LOL , cause I knew best didnt I, and it did say on package to be taken whole , my thinking well they wouldnt give me meds that said that if it wasnt ok to take ..... popped one in and it got stuck , I wretched and sick so bad for 12 hours following part of my stomach came back up through band and twisted .. alas 5 days later I had to get opened up again to get the whole sorry mess fixed.

anyway congrats on your 1st day post op , you will feel like you do for a day or too and then jsut gets better , Im now 3 weeks since my last band and apart from very vert slight discomfort on my side sleeping , just fine .. I think a weeks time I should get some serious excercise ... at docs tomorrow so hopefully all will be well

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
