Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I will be banded on the 28th which is 8 more sleeps. I am so excited and scarred but cant wait.I live in a medium sized northam coastal town in Western Australia. The hospital i will be banded in is 1700k south at the nearest city Perth i plan to fly down the day before. My problem is i have only seen my Dr (Tony Kiereth)once for the very first consult and it was quite a breif encounter obviously i new what i wanted and he could do it,he made me lye on the table for a little poke around my tum,and thats was it,I had let him know i had the insurance for over a year just for this op and he said great you can have it in as little as two weeks AMAZING:lol:, all he gave as in information was a small booklet (which since my partner has thrown away). I havent had to "jump through hoops" like some of the fellow bandsters on here nor, have to go on a pre op diet he didnt tell me to quit smoking i am anyway after this packet lol he said his secretary would take care of everything i rang her she got me in to glenngarry hospital on the 28th and said she would send up the paper work which i still havent recieved:ohmy: i had to contact her today as my manager needed to know if i really need the time off and it was confirmed she said she sent them friday now its monday not here yet maybe tommorow:bored:wow talk about quick i hope there are some more pre op type tips in the paperwork. Its lucky i have this forum being so remote i need all the support i can get.Any ideas on how i should be eating or what i should be doing to prepare or even what i should get ready for when its done and i am home all those miles away from the hospital!! (we have one here but noone would know about lapbands shizzlle my Knizzle people):blink:I believe my doctor to be quite experienced in the surgery any body had him?i will be sitting on a two hour flight home so how soon after should i book my flight for? Any ideas tips or just your own story would be fantastic to hear:rolleyes2:

Have a great day

XXX:thumbup:

I have nothing helpful to say other than welcome! I am out of 'sleeps' til my procedure and leave for the hospital in a few hours. I am so thrilled to be doing this and cannot wait for the next phase. good luck!

Some times it takes a couple days for input. The 8 I guess 7 days will go quicker than you think. I was inpaitent and live about 30 minutes from the hospital so I was driven down and stayed overnight and brought home the next day. I would say that if you have to fly to where your surgery is you may want to consider staying at a nearby hotel at least one night incase something comes up.

Be sure to follow you Dr's pre-op instructions mine didn't require a pre-op diet so I did one kind of on my own Protein drink twice a day and a low carb dinner no snacking.

Be sure to get clear discharge instructions especially since you will be so far away. We've been put on so many different pre and post op instructions you just want to make sure you understand clearly what your Dr. want you to do.

Good Luck!

I can't speak to the pre-op diet as my doc didn't put me on one. Just nothing at all after midnight the night before.

As far as the smoking goes he told me not to smoke after midnight as well. I won't be smoking afterwards either. As a nurse, I shouldn't smoke at ALL, but after surgery it really impairs your healing process. Your cells and tissues need all the oxygen they can get to heal. So my advice would be to not smoke after surgery. I'll be quitting soon as well!

Good luck!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
