I think i may be overfilled! In pain, please help

Recommended Posts

Hi I had my 5th fill on friday afternoon and since then i havent been able to keep anything down, including fluids.

I thought it may loosen up as it has done previously after a few days, but it hasnt and im in so much pain.

I have a really bad burning sensation in my chest and throat and my mouth keeps watering like i want to vomit when i havent eaten and when ever i do try to eat or drink,i am vomiting constantly until everything is back up.

I have never experienced this before, only the occasional pb when i eat the wrong type of food, but this is absolute hell.

And being a sunday,i wont even be able to contact my doctor until at least tomorrow and then it depends when he can fit me in to when i can get an unfill.

I have 6.2 cc's in a 10 cc band. I feel so weak and i have a major headache but the burning sensation in my chest is the worst.

i tried to drink a Protein Shake for Breakfast and couldnt even keep that down.

any suggestions for what i can do to relieve this until i see the doc would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance

cindie

You need to see a doctor and the sooner the better. Does your surgeon have an answering service? An emergency number? If not, I would go to an emergency room. It is easy to become dehydrated. Please get some medical attention... now. Good luck to you. Please let me know how things turn out. I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. Becky

Well I would be afraid of dehydration. You need to call your doc first thing in the morning.

Now for your immediate problem of trying to get fluids in you I would use a medicine dropper. My band was very tight when it was closed. If I took a small sip of liquid it would hurt like crazy or come back up. I even tried measuring my liquids in a 3oz. Dixie cup and tried to drink it in many sips. However, I could take my medicine dropper full of liquid and that would not hurt or come back up. So what I did is I would fill the dropper with Water mixed with apple juice and have one dropper full every 15 minutes. I would set the timer in the kitchen and it made all the difference in the world.

Give that a try tonight and if you can keep it down then take a dropper full every 10 minutes and then maybe every 5 minutes. After a few hours you will start to feel better.

However, if your urine is brown or your skin wrinkles when you pinch it together and does not smooth out in a normal amount of time you may want to call the ER.

Good luck and I hope you feel better.

Hi,thanks for your replies it is greatly appreciated,I have tried to drink a cup of tea this morning and i couldnt keep it down at all,but I will try again and see if that helps,i have also tried to ring my doctors office but to no avail,so i guess ill have to wait until tomorrow.

i have tried pincing my skin and see if it bounces back like suggested and it did so i dont think im dehydrated yet,i just feel so crappy and sore in the chest.

oh well,i will try to have a cuppa and see how i go and ill get back to you

thanks again

Feel better! How terrible that he didn't call you back. I've been having trouble getting in touch with my Dr. in a timely manner as well. I would hate for you to have an unfill...but don't hesitate if that's what it takes to get you feeling better.

I went through the same thing. I was filled on a Friday, and could not keep anything down all weekend. I had to resort to sucking on ice chips and then fought to keep that down as long as possible just to keep from getting dehydrated. Sucking on the ice chips was my doctor’s advice… either that or to take tiny sips of Water all day. And that was only IF I could hold off until the following Monday. Fortunately I was able to. My doctor is 2.5 hours away and since I had taken time off on Friday, I did not want to do the same the very next Monday. So I went to work and sucked on ice chips only to have the water come back up shortly after finishing and took the drive to my doctor at the end of my work day. I felt horrible; I was tired, thirsty, and hungry. From Friday to Monday I had lost 14 lbs. That may sound wonderful, but really it is not. I had just had 1.5 cc added to my band. I wanted about .5 - 1 cc removed, but my doctor explained that my stomach was now swollen and that if he only took out a little I still would not be able to drink anything so he took out 1.5 cc. I regained about half of those 14 lbs in a matter of days – once I rehydrated myself. I have never been so happy to sip water, o veggie and chicken broth before in my life. I was very lucky though. I have a friend who experienced and overfill – she passed out. She also could not keep anything down including liquids. After passing out she ended up in the ER where a new local WLS doctor gave her a complete unfill. Of course she really gained weight after that and now she is going through the slow process of having her band refilled (small increments at a time). GO SEE YOUR SURGEON and have him/her take out what ever was added to your band on Friday… You can always try for that number of ccs again just do it in smaller increments.

Please do not wait, this happened to me a month ago, I called my Dr. and I had to go to the emergency room in rochester where I had my surgery. They had to take out the Fluid in my band I was hurting so bad in my chest and vomiting couldn't even keep my saliva down. Call the hospital and have your Dr. paged. I went back after 2 weeks and he put the fluid back in. There was some food stuck and blocking everything going down. Good Luck!

You were banded in Jan 09? That's alot of Fluid in such a short time..I was banded back in Dec08, and only have maybe 4cc in a 10cc band..I went through the same thing a few weeks ago..I could keep the fluids down but nothing solid..I waited 2 weeks thinking too that It'll loosen, but never did..Went and had 1/4 cc removed. It helped..He had only placed 1/2cc in..After the first couple of fills, my doctor then backs way off..Hope you feel better..I think they should test the band fill with something thicker had Water before we leave the office..

I was feeling many of the symptoms you are experiencing last week. I called my doctor last Friday night and she suggested that I meet her in the emergency room on Saturday morning. She took 1.5 cc out of my band. I am feeling much better. I was getting very dehydrated because I could not keep Water or food down. This is not the purpose of the band. My band was way too tight. My doctor could not explain why other than it happens sometimes. I can now eat and drink without pain in my chest or throwing up the liquid and food (totally gross). Get some Fluid out! Don't be uncomfortable and pain. The band was not meant to cause discomfort. You want the "sweet spot" of losing weight and having enough restriction. Good luck to you! Please let us all know how you are doing.

hi guys,

just thought id let you all know that today i feel heaps better!,its amazing but it has seemed to loosen up somehow and i was able to keep alittle Cereal down this morning for breakfast, soup for lunch and some pureed Pasta for dinner.I am still throwing alittle up ate eat feed but nothing like i was,and i can now drink too which was my major concern.

I am still very tight and i can feel every little bit going down but am able to get it down which i am so greatful for.The pain in my chest has gone and so has the headache so I want to thank everyone who replied to me as your advice was greatly appreciated.

Lunabean-your idea about the yoghurt is such a good one and i will be sure to use that at my next fill because i agree that they need to use something thicker than Water.< /p>

Donnainva-i am also going to listen to your advice and not let myself get a fill on a thursday or friday, even though my doctor does it on all week days,i will try my best to get a fill only at the start of the week.

klutzyazhel-i know i have too many fills for such a short amount of time but i am my own worst enemy and kept going for more and more fills in the Quest to get skinny. But now ive experienced the effects of rushing this too quickly and have decided to slow down and think of my health and children before being stupid again because i really got scared this time.

and for everone else,i again thankyou for taking the time to reply to me,your help and concern really helped me get through this and i really appreciate it.xx

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
