NSV's - Non Scale Victories - A tip for newbies

Recommended Posts

Hi. I recently hit a major plateau and was looking for something to feel good about/keep me motivated/celebrate, since the numbers on the scale were certainly not moving. I remembered that I had taken my measurements when I began my journey. I dug out the card where I had written them down and measured again. (bust, waist, hips, thighs, calves, neck, and upper arms). I had lost a total of 28.75 inches. Suddenly I felt better.

If you are new and have not measured yourself - do it. Good luck to anyone who is just beginning this wonderful process!!! Becky

I wish I had taken measurements but I don't have a measuring tape and never think to buy one when I am out shopping. However, I had a NSV today. I fit into a pair of pants that I have not fit into in years...I thought I would just share.

Hi. Thank you for sharing. It's so nice when those things happen, and they seem to happen when we really need them. This road we are on is a bumpy one and it's easy to get discouraged. We have to find things to keep us motivated, focused on our goal, and smiling. Way to go!!! Keep up the good work - you're doing great!!!! Becky

Your right when you say that "they seem to happen when we really need them." I am waiting with anticipation for Tuesday to get my first fill. Two weeks ago I went to the doctor and told him I was not ready for a fill yet because I had just started eating regular food 4 days earlier. Two days later all my restriction went away and I have only lost about 3 pounds in the last month. As soon as I started eating mushies the weight loss slowed down a lot. So getting into these pants on and knowing that I will soon lose more weight makes a world of difference.

Thank you for your support.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
