banded in Febraury and really frustrated

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I was banded on 2/19 and for the longest was doing great. Even six or seven weeks after suregery I wasn't really all that hungry and was able to stick to the recommended diet. Had my first fill of 1.5 cc's on 3/24/09 and was still doing great. However, within the last few weeks I have been getting really hungry and eating far more than I need to. :tt2: I have not really gained any weight, but am afraid I will if I don't watch out. I am scheduled for another fill next Tuesday, but am concerned because even after my first fill I couldn't really tell any difference in what or how I was eating. Has any one else experienced this? :)

Hi autigerfan,

I was banded on 2/24/09 and had one fill of 2 ccs on 4/6. I have not been losing much weight either but am trying to keep in mind what everyone says about the restriction coming with more fills.

After my first fill, I felt really gross and couldn't really eat for a few days. Once everything settled down, I found my appetite returned...BIG time. I'm trying to make healthy food choices and stick to a plan but it's been quite challenging.

So basically, you're not alone. I'm heading back for my next fill on 4/28 and will discuss it then. Until then, I'm trying to keep the faith that this will help.

Hang in there!

I was banded Feb 4th, first fill on 3/30 2.? ccs, and Yes I AM HUNGRY! My next fill isn't scheduled until 6/8. I've been calling trying to get my appointment moved up but they won't call me back. Ugh! I know what you mean, I lost 24 lbs the first month, 4 lbs the second month, 5 lbs after my fill and I'm afraid I've gained 2 or 3 back. I won't make it to June... I hope they call me soon.

Bandster hell is not a fun place. You are so excited because you're finally banded and then........hunger. Trust me when I say that this too shall pass and once you get through it you will soon put it out of your mind. But that can take a few fills, so patience is the word of the day. You can still keep track of your food intake and be loosing some weight. Having the knowledge that fills are on the way helps a little during the tough times.

I feel your pain as well. I was banded on 3/31 and have lost weight before and after the surgery, but it is a fight every day, which is one of the reasons I wanted the band...appetite restriction. I find I eat less, but not beat I'm on cause I'm full, but becaue I make myself stop....I feel like I coulhave done this without the pain (and the $15,000) of surgery. I'm also still having trouble controlling my sweet tooth. I have no fill right now, but my doctor said if I don't get appetitie retriction now that I' mon solid foods, he will give me a fill. Now I know why they call it bandster hell.

Most doctors want to wait for about 6 weeks for your stomach to heal. Some wait longer and some do it sooner. This is a healing time so concentrate on that. Soon you will have the frustrations of eating something you truly enjoy and having to stop because there is no more room. I know that is hard to imagine but it will come.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
