Help deciding on lapband procedure

Recommended Posts

Hi im interested, on getting done the lapband precedure, i have been obese since i was 12 , im a male 25 years, 5'9 ,240 lb. i know i dont enter the super obese category i think my bmi is 35 or something like that. I went to a specialist here, and he told me that because i have high blood preasure its a good idea to have the procedure done, for my own health. Im almost decided but many people think im crazy because i dont look so fat. Sincerely for me i look fat every time i see myself on the mirror. I have twice in 3 years lost 50 pounds by dieting but i always gain them back. My doctor here show me the two bands, and well he told me that he liked more the lapband ap than the realize but that its my choice at the end. any comment and advice will be highly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum you are at a critical point in your life. To do something, or not....and then which one?

Just take your time in choosing your band. This will become part of your body. I have the Lapband, 2 years ago so I am not familiar with ap or realize.

But it worked for me and thousands of others. Keep us posted on your progress.

Having the band put in was the best thing I have ever done for myself. I have the Lapband not the realize. My doc showed me both and the size of the realize scared me. (really small) My doc said for men he prefers the Lapband because we seem to have bigger stoma's. I have lost weight, gained weight so many times I can't remember. So I decided I wanted to stay healthy for the long run and not go back. I can tell you that if I didn't have a band I would have gained some weight back. Sometimes in my mind I forget I even have a band and try to go back to my old eating habits. The band however always reminds me that 'i'm still here'! No matter what I do I can't eat the volumes like I use to. Good luck on making your decision.

Hey I am the smae height as you and when i was 25 years of age I weighed about the same maybe a little less and I am now 32 years old and weight 310. And like you I was always able to shed 50 lbs really quick only to put it back on. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and high blood pressure last year and like many people on here i have to sleep with a cpap machine at night and am on high blodd pressure medication. I am in the process of getting the band I have a surgery date of June 11th actually, i just wish that I would have done this sooner. So my advise to you is that if you can have it done and know that you cant do it alone with just diet because you put the weight back on go for the lapband. When i was 25 and someone would have tols me to get the lapband I woulsd have laughed at them and said thats not for me but they would be the ones laughing at me because 7 years later I am getting the surgery done. Good luck

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
