Port area question

Recommended Posts

After having surgery did anybody feel that there port area felt weird when you walk around?? Sometimes I feel like that area on my stomach weighs so much more than the rest of my stomach! It dosen't really hurt..it just feels a little uncomfortable sometimes!! Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Does it usually take longer for the port area to start feeling normal again? (I am only a week out from surgery..and i was just wondering if that is normal), please let me know if you have experienced anything similar!

Oh yes!!!

It took about a month for me to feel better in the port area. You have swelling from the surgery and stitches in the nerves and the muscles that you use regularly.

The sensations I felt varied through the healing process. I had swelling, pain, burning, numbness, tightness and the sensation of something shifting inside me. It is all normal and will take the longest to heal.

I still can feel my port area when I do things like exercise. Its funny because everyone that knows I have had the surgery wants to feel it and stuff, it's like an alien in my stomach.lol It did take a good month before I felt back to my normal self though, very tough recovery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
