Had my band done 11/6/2008 by Dr. Strickland at Riverside Surgical Group at Lexington Med. Center. So far, no problems. Get my staples out Mon. and have many questions for them. I can't find a Protein Shake that I can stomach (no pun intendend) Anyone else have surgery there? Any advice on Protein?

Well finally some people from the Carolina's. I am from SC. I am not banded yet. But, I have had my psych eval and nutrition class. Will be seeing my surgeon next week.

Have any of you had LapBand at MUSC?

I don't have any experience with MUSC, but I had my surgery on Tuesday at Palmetto Baptist in Columbia, and I got to go home that afternoon. The doc said everything went as smooth as can be...he wished he'd have videotaped it because it went so well! I am home and a little sore and a little gassy, but it's all worth it! I haven't had much appetite yet, so I haven't put a whole lot into my body other than Water. That's all I had Tuesday. I had a cup of broth and a sugar-free Jello yesterday. Today I am trying a Slim Fast shake...I'm going slow to pace myself and make sure I don't make myself sick! Hope all goes well for you, pht1226. Lexmed, they used staples on you? I have some kind of glue type stuff that they used on me. They said not to pick at it but to let it come off naturally...and the doc used a black sharpie to mark my stomach so now I have faded black marks all over my stomach! The nurse said not to scrub the area with the glue until that comes off, so I guess I'll just have a treasure map on my stomach for a while! But, the hardest part is over, and now the living well can begin. Good luck to you all!

Hey lexmed! I was banded on 11/19/08 by Dr. Givens at Riverside. I have been drinking ready made Isopure. It is more like a flavored drink instead of a shake. Isopure has 40 grams of protien and comes in a glass bottle in a variaty of flavors. I have been getting them at the Vitiman Shop on Harbison Blvd for about $42.00 a case. Hope this helps. (my favorite is Alpine Punch... taste like fruit punch)

Hello Everyone! I was banded on 12/3/08 by Dr Antonetti at Riverside surgical. I stayed in the hospital one night and I am now at home. I am doing well except I am having terrible shoulder pain. I have tried everything. I had used heat, ice and even a shoulder injection. They did not work. If I could get rid of the shoulder pain I would not need any more pain medicine. I have been using the protien drinks that the doctors office suggested. they are a little on the expensive side however they taste pretty good. They have a whole line of products that all have protien in them so that you are not struggling to get your daily dose in. So far out of all the products there is only one that I do not like. I think it is just a matter of what fits for you. Remember, We wont be in the liquid stages forever. Hang in there. If any one knows how I can get rid of this darn shoulder pain please let me know.

I'm trying to get banded but my employer has a bariatric exclusion on our insurance.....so I'm considering buying my own insurance, has anyone else tried this. Does anyone know if BCBS of SC covers lapband surgery?

Hello, I see its been a while since any of you have posted on here... I'm from Greenwood and was banded in Oct. 2011. Just wanted to know if any of you were still on here. I lost focus on the band and need help.. :(

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
