I am experience blurred vision and my pupils will not shrink when in the light. It's now night time and I am 3 days post op. Have any of you experienced this? Or does anyone know what this might be associated with?

Thanks! Andrea

What drugs are you taking? Pain meds? anti-anxiety? anti-nausea?

If you prefer you can PM me or email me

don't mean to be nosy but it SHOULD be a drug reaction, not to reglan or prevacid though

I was banded on Monday afternoon. I noticed the EXACT same things you mentioned. I was taking lortab for the pain, along with having morphone/blood thinners still in my system. I also noticed a slower heart rate. All IS back to normal now- 4 days post-op. I imagine that all of the changes/drugs in your body must take a toll on the ole' eyes. Give it time.

I had the same thing, but for 2 days. I had a patch for nausa and in combo with the eye stuff the put in on surgery day, caused me to be blurry. After I took off the patch, the next day it was all better. It never hurts to call the doc and make sure.

D:lol:

Actually opiods (like lortab) cause pinprick pupils, not dilated ones. They suppress the SNS and that is the system that causes dilation.

I forgot that I take Labetol too for high blood pressure. That and the Prevacid are the only things I took today. Now I haven't eaten much at all today and probably only 8 oz. of Water. I have zero appetite and feel soooo full all the time.

it probably is an idiosyncratic reaction to the lorbtab. Dilated pupils can be a sign of lortab withdrawal but if you've only taken it a couple of days, that wouldn't apply...unless you're just sensitive to it!

I think if those are your only symptoms, just get a good night's sleep and if still dilated tomorrow, call your doctor!

I also had the patch on until today. I took it off this afternoon.

The patch sounds to me like the most likely culprit. It is known to affect eye sight. I personally use it all the time for travlling and on cruises. But I cut it in half and only wear half at a time because it blurs my vision. So give it a little while and I am sure it will go away since you took it off.

I guess it would depend on what drug is in the patch...

Not as dilated today, but still kinda fuzzy in my eyes and head. Hopefully that's a sign it's getting better! I appreciate everyone's help. It kind of scares me. I will have to look and see what the name of my patch was. I never filled the script for more.

I am sure it was transderm scop (scopolamine). It is commonly used in surgery to combat the nausea afterwards. I know my surgeon uses is and I have heard many other people on here mention it was used on them too. You should start to feel just fine. Good Luck.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
