What does 3 mo. Behavior Mod Program mean?

Recommended Posts

From what I have read my insurance requires either the 6 mo. medically supervised diet OR a 3 mo. Behavior Modification Program. Obviously to me the sooner the better!

What is a 3 mo. Behavior Mod program? What is involved in it?

My insurance required the 6 month diet and I guess you could call it Behavior Mod Program. It included monthly weigh-ins along with life style change and education (how to eat right, make good choices, avoid stress eating, etc.). The 3 month program to me sounds like the same thing where they instruct you on all of the above, basically to change those nasty habits we all have to help lose weight. Just make sure you have everything spelled out for you and you follow it exactly leaving no room for the insurance to deny you.

It sounds like maybe you have Aetna - I know they had three month multidisciplinary option. If that's the case then they want you to have a more intense three diet & exercise program VS. just diet. I know my surgeon had an in house class that fulfilled this requirement. I thought about it but it was extra money I couldn't afford and I was already four months in with my PCP.

It's definately a great option but make sure it's well documented. i would ask your surgeon if they have classes or know of any that fulfill the requirement.

Good Luck!

Looking at the Doctor's website the clinic has an inhouse dietician you have to see before and after the surgery, at least one class you have to take before, several support group options, a required meet with a personal trainer before and after, and a required nutrition class. Wonder if all that counts?

I am leaning more towards doing this so I signed up for the introductory seminar they do, and it happens to be tomorrow so I will hopefully get answers then.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
