Acid Reflux Problems-Need Help!

Recommended Posts

Hello,

So last June I started getting really bad acid reflux while I was sleeping-thought it was an ulcer. I had my band unfilled all of the way but it still didn't help. I had an endoscope done and everything was normal. I am still having acid reflux and I want to cure it not just treat the symptoms with the Nexium my doctor gave me (which can even make it worse)... I have been taking enzymes and they seem to help but last night I was up every 20 min. because of the reflux was so bad and I ended up having to take a Nexium. I have never had this problem before and it started all of a sudden back in June. I have no idea what started it! I really want to get a fill as I have gained back about 20 lbs. from having it empty but I am scared that it might make my reflux worse-do you think so??? Has anyone cured their reflux??? I am SO sick of it!! :scared2:

Ask your Dr if it's possible you have a hiatal hernia (not sure my spelling is correct on that). I had one and didnt know it. He repaired it during my lapband surgery and i've only had one bout since surgery! Before surgery, it was a couple times a week, and i was on double doses of protonix, morning and night. Now, i'm only on single doses once a day and as i said only one time in 4 months!

Good luck to you!

Tkl

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
