How is it to cook for others after surgery

Recommended Posts

This might sound kinda funny but I also have a 14 month old whose food might be more tempting. He's only starting to get molars now so he is still on somewhat soft foods (as in no hard/crunchy stuff and he doesn't like meats yet) so a lot of his foods are what I imagine I would be eating eventually. The problem there is that until age 2, his foods are made with whole milk, cheese, cottage cheese, etc.

During the initial post op phase, you will be on liquids, then mushies. After that you will be able to eat just about any food you ate before. Once you get restriction, you will find out the foods that just don't go down as well. If I eat slowly, and chew thoroughly, I can eat anything; just not as much.

I enjoy cooking meals more now than ever because I know I'll eat a small portion and put the rest away. I also get more creative. My theory is that if I can only eat a few bites of something, then I want those to be full of flavor, not boring.

I found that its much easier to go costco and pick out dinners in the freezer that they can put in the oven and prepare themselves. I don't want to have to touch the meals- i'm afraid I will want to eat it!My kids are teenagers so they can fend for themselves.Or, a bowl of Cereal always works! they aren't starving!!!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
