Vomitting, anyone exp this?

Recommended Posts

Hi there

Banded last Sept and have lost 5stones. I feel great most of the time and have only had one fill. I have had, on 2 occassions now episodes of ' projectile' vomitting. The first time I was told I had caught the norovirus and it lasted 3days, so I guess that was what it was. A few days ago I ate some chunky coleslaw along with dinner, prob too quick and didn't chew it enough. I think it stuck and then spent the nxt 2 days in agony, pb'ing and slime until it finally ended with a huge projectile normal vomit( about half a basin full) sorry for the graphics! This seemd to clear everything and I felt fine afterwards.

Has this happened to anyone else?? I mentioned to my surgeon that I had had the vomitting virus and he didn't seem at all concerned.

I've had projectile vomiting once before, funnily enough fairly recently. I know it was due to me eating a very rich meal late the night before. Unfortunately it was my dads funeral the next day and I felt like death (sorry about the pun) all throughout the day. My sister suggested I tried a remegel. I joked 'if I throw up after trying this it's all your fault!' Famous last words.

It wasn't a nice thing to happen...who'd have thought sick could come out of your nose??? But, I felt so much better afterwards!

I'm sure you don't have anything to worry about now, unless it keeps happening. I know sometimes we can forget the demands of the band and slip up food wise. As long as we learn from our mistakes we should be fine.

Hope that is the case for you..

Suzy

Hi Arran,

I had one stuck episode when my band was too tight that lasted over 5 hours, vomitting every 30-45 minutes. I have no idea where all that liquid came from! It was no fun at all. I got stuck on a small peice of loose hamburger.

My doc advised that if it happens again and I cannot stand it that he could completely unfill my band to let things recover and then do a re-fill.

As it turned out, I had some Fluid taken out of my band about a week later as I kept having problems, but nothing lasting 5 hours. I can't imagine 2 days!

But I will say that when I get stuck, nothing feels so good as urping it up!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
