    • Yes, as a runner only.

    • No, but I think it's a great idea!
    • No, thank you.

Hi!

I'm assisting in finding out if anyone is interested in participating in a 5K run. We might even be able to have this as the 1st Annual LBT 5K run!

Suggestions are welcome! Please feel free to add suggestions or comments here. And please vote!

(NOTE: voting only open for 10 days from 03/30/2009).

Here are a few of the suggestions:

1. Have it held on the same weekend everywhere, with local/regional/county/state locations pre-determined.

2. Multiple locations so as many people as are interested may participate.

3. Multiple events - 5K - 10K - 15K - etc (can be determined later)

4. Have organizers volunteer and then setup their own local events

5. Come up with a logo for T-Shirts for participants/helpers

6. Could have it in June or July, far enough out for those that want to train prior to the run.

7. Should it be limited to only Banders, or open up to anyone?

8. Add more here!!!

I think this is a great idea - I don't run currently, but would consider training for this...there are lots of runners in the area where I work (New Haven - Yale University campus) and the bariatric surgeons here are one of the 'centers of excellence' so they might help as well.

Please let me know as details come out...

I used to do a 5K every week when I was traveling but I would usually do it at a walking pace instead of running and I assume that will be ok for this event as well.

Very true, Harold. And I agree. I think the goal should be on the fact that it is completed, and not necessarily how it was completed. Run, walk, jog, etc, all should be acceptable.

Thanks for the suggestion!

It just hit me what you said! You did a 5K every week! That's very impressive. I probably used to walk that much in a week total, sometimes. But i've just started the Couch to 5K program and I will definitely finish the 5K run!

And Good Luck on your first fill next week! :P

Yes I get bored easily so most of the locations I travel to have 5K run/walks each week on Saturdays so I would spend the hour doing the 5K then find something to do the rest of the day. I walk about a mile each day so a 5K (3mile) is not hard.

Hi Harold,

You've given me hope...I walk 1.6 miles every day at lunchtime, so now it sounds as if I could do a 5K pretty easily!

Now I just need to work up to running the distance...I've always envied the ease and freedom that runners seem to have but because of my weight and my anatomy (I'm top heavy) I've never really tried to run seriously.

The band seems like the route for me to eventually become a runner...the benefits just keep on coming! I :P my banded life!

I think its a great idea. I would definately be in on the run. Not sure how it would be organized geographically, but don't imagin there would be enough to hold one in my area. Maybe conduct it via Nike+ or something like that.

Thanks! I think it would be great to have multiple runs all on the same day at different locations. Whatever we could have happen.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
