My fellow VVs

As I expressed in the exercise thread, the VV's checking in with us on the forum seem to have become fewer and fewer in number. A few of you responded that you want us to keep the forum alive...and I'm all for that, but I would really like to see more topics of discussion, more threads, and more activity.

So, think of a thread, post a joke, talk about things band related or not....just come back, come back...

It's a sunny Friday, and I have a busy wekend - each of DH's daughters (and partner) is coming for a visit as his birthday is Monday. BUT as the two SD's are not talking with each other (and these are ADULTS?!?!), they are staggering visits. Silly. But as DH says, at least they are coming to visit...they have suggested going out to dinner (one Sat, one Sun)...but I suspect that will translate into going out but we pay. Oh well.

So, thats my weekend....

I'm going to clean this weekend. I have to go see this play thing my roommate is in, but other than that I am going to clean and maybe do some walking with my doggies.

I agree tapshoes. We need more stuff.

I'm throwing a baby shower tomorrow for dh's co-worker. I'm making the cake for it today. I'm a bit stressed about the design. I used to think I could make great cakes, but then the internet happened to me and I see so many beautiful cakes and realize mine aren't anything to get too excited about. Oh well. I'll just do the best I can.

We're just at the tail end of a blizzard. I think we got about 3-4 inches of snow. Hopefully all the roads will be driveable by tomorrow.

Hey Shiny - What kind of cake? What design? And remember, it is the taste that is really important - yes, the presentation counts, but truly, I think eating it is the main thing, isn't it???

As for the blizzard - please please please, keep that snow there. I am all wintered out!! No more, no more...I can't handle it!

I posted this in another thread, but thought it was SO much fun, my fellow VVs might enjoy it as well...

Why oh why did my morning commutes (when I used to spend an hour each direction on trains), never have this kind of fun?

At the train station in Liverpool , T-Mobile did this great commercial unknown to the daily commuters. They practiced for 8 weeks late night at the station. On January 15th, 2009, with hidden cameras and 400 dancers at 11:00 a.m. their plan was put into action.

It's a two tier baby shower (welcome baby, actually, she's about a month old) cake. I can do flowers pretty well, so that's most likely what I'll do. I do like to use a more tasty frosting instead of buttercream, but it doesn't decorate quite as well. It is cream cheese, cool whip and powdered sugar. Yummy.

The snow is done and the kids are enjoying a beautiful, yet cold day outside. So cute.

I think as the weather warms up and Spring/Summer approaches, the forum will slow down a bit. But we never have to say it's over! I've been supporting my sister through the process of getting ready for baratric surgery, she is so excited and I'm excited for her! It all reminds me of what I've went through, and how far I've come in a year. She wants the RNY though, but she'll have the same surgeon as I. I am also looking forward to doing some volunteer work at a local shelter, The same shelter I adopted my dog from. It's something I've been wanting to do. So just keeping busy here.

SHM, I'd *really* love to see a picture of the cake you are making! I love looking at the creations people can make with cakes, it's so artistic. Me, I'm lucky if I can spread frosting evenly on a cake. :crying:

Not sure what threads to start :) seems like we've covered most topics, but it doesn't hurt to start some again! I'll be going shopping this weekend for some new Spring/Summer clothes, I'm tired of the frumpy stuff I have. It's exciting, because I have NO IDEA what size I am. The last time I went shopping was last Fall (seriously). I have a son who's pre-teen, he's growing out of his clothes soooooo fast. He's 12 years old, and can stand and look me in the eye! They grow up so fast, it makes me a bit sad, lol. Anyway, he comes first within the clothes budget!

OK . . . enough rambling from me. I'll be around, and try and post some more. We are still family here!

.

One of the nicest baby shower cakes I've seen is done like childrens building blocks...three squares with different colored icing on the different sides, with big numbers or letters on different sides...some day there will be an occasion for me to make it! The icing sounds good - what's the proportion?

[b']I hope you are right Rhap. I really don't want us to 'break up'...but it may be a natural evolution. I promise that I will do all I can to keep us together, and if everyone makes that effort we will survive[/b]!

Happy shopping! We can't have the VV's going around 'frumpy' - time to show off the new body with fitted nice clothes!

It is Saturday morning; must get my next cup of coffee and start in on the days activities...

Hi! Ya'll don't know me from Adam...I was just perusing the "new posts" and this thread caught my eye.

My group, the Shrinking Violets (April 07) have been posting regularly for 2 years now! We even went on a trip together last year and have another one planned for this June! But I was just going to make a suggestion to you all. Instead of posting different threads/topics, just all post to one thread like an ongoing conversation! We've been doing that and I think we've got something like 25,000 posts in 2 years from about a dozen girls.

I think it's really important to keep in touch, especially as time marches on. The issues you face, and will face, never go away and it's nice to have a group of friends to rely on for understanding and motivation.

GOOD LUCK and STAY IN TOUCH!!!!!!!

Hi Terri - Actually, I know OF you - you were the creator of the best ever thread - "I really hate it when people post just to post".

I think your idea is a good one - and congratulations to your group for staying so close! That speaks volumes about all of you. let's see what my fellow VVs have to say. I don't really care if it is one active post or lots of smaller posts with activity - I just want to see my fellow VVs back in the fold.

Hi. Exhaustingly busy day, but it went very well. I'll post pictures of the cake later. It turned out pretty cute. I used the fluffy frosting between layers and a new icing for the outside. I think I'll continue using that one. It was a good one.

The fluffy icing is:

8 oz cream cheese

1.5 cups powdered sugar

1 t vanilla

beat together until creamy

add 12 oz cool whip

The outside icing was this recipe:

Extra Special Buttercream Icing Recipe : Recipezaar

I didn't have the butter flavor or the whipping cream so I used double the vanilla and fat free half and half. It turned out nice.

Here's the cake I made. It tasted much better than I had expected. The less-sweet, fluffy icing in the middle really helped it be moist and yummy. (Okay, sorry I shouldn't be posting food porn here.) This is just for the artistic value.

Also including a picture of my son's second birthday cake. That is Brobee, from Yo Gabba Gabba.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
