Does the weight loss slow down or does it stay fairly steady the first year?

Recommended Posts

I am asking because today is my 6 month mark and this month particularly I have been losing slowly, or more slowly than the past 3-4 months. I haven't needed a fill since the first of January so that may be the problem. I still feel fairly tight (some things get stuck) but I am beginning to get hungry much sooner between meals than I have before. So I'm just curious if those of you who have been banded at least 6 months are still losing 8 lbs or so a month or have you slowed down? Is it unrealistic to expect to keep losing 8+ lbs a month like I have been all the way to the year mark? Thanks for your input!

I am 8 months post op and I am about at 1 lb per week, but I am happy, because it is still losing. I had a plateau at month 6 for about 6 weeks where I lost nothing at all. I am glad that is over with and when I start exercising again, I will probably begin to lose faster.

I was banded in April 08 and have lost 68 lbs. But I haven't lost anything since November 08. NOTHING.

I have no idea why. I just got a fill 3 weeks ago and can hardly eat at all, but still I can't lose.

Any suggestions?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
