Ok I am 28 weeks prgnant and I have put on 8 kilos. I know it may not seem like much, but I have been craving sweet, sugary foods and it is starting to worry me.

I need to snap out of it and stop drnking the choc milk and eating the lollies. I am half unfilled and need to rely on my will power.

Does anyone have any ways/plans of attack, help me, I don't want to gain too much weight :frown:

I am right with you at 28 weeks and scared of gaining too much. I have probably gained about 7 kilos over the last two months.

My problem is drinking, drinking, drinking . . . milk or juice or whatever, but Water just isn't as interesting for me right now. I know I am getting too much of my daily calories from liquids and then still eating more than I ever did while banded.

I haven't yet gained excessively, but I feel like it is coming on. I could use some advice as well. My cravings are very strong and I am struggling.

Thank you for replying Heather. When are you due? I am due June 14th.

I am with you on the drinking liquids. Since being banded, I have been so good and have mainly only drank Water, but since being pregnant, my cravings too have gone up. i drink so much milk. Yesterday I think it was close to 1.5 litres:unsure:

I know in the grand sceme of things its not so bad, and my husband keeps telling me its for the "greater good", but when I have worked so hard to lose that weight, it is soul destroying to see 8 kilos ome back so quickly. It takes so long to lose :rolleyes2:

I need to snap out of it, I even just had a big glass of milk with milo, what is wrong with me :scared2:

I had Dr. Pepper for a little bit, I have gained SO MUCH weight since pregnancy :huh2: :) I stopped with the liquid calories unless it's a sweet tea which I only have a couple times a week.

I am gaining almost 10lb a week the past 2 weeks, and I guarantee you I am not eating that much. I don't know what my deal is. I went from 212lb to 273lb, at almost 36 weeks.. (Sorry I don't know the kilo conversion).

However, I can still fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes (pants) on my hips and most of my shirts would still fit if I didn't have the baby there.

I am due June 9th so just a few days before. We are almost on the same schedule :0).

I am trying not to let the gain stress me out too much. I have to admit, I put my scale away because I was paying too much attention to it. I now don't get weighed unless I am in my ob's office.

Your right on it being hard to lose. The last 20 pounds were very, very difficult to take off and took forever.

What is milo by the way? I have never heard of it.

heather, i see by your ticker that you got down to your goal, well done. That must make it even harder seeing weight go back up.

Milo is a malt/choc drink you add to milk. Its delicious. I made hubby hide the tin though :huh2:

Maybe you are just having a very big baby. My sister in law, who is very petite put on close to 40 kilos when she was pregnant, she was so upset. Most of hers was Fluid and she lost it all within 3 months of giving birth. I think she even got lower than her starting weight.

I find it hard to believe that all your weight gain is body fat, it must be baby and Fluid. But seeing those scales must be so hard. Just think, you can start fresh when baby comes :huh2:

Hi there. I haven't posted in a really long time -- I usually just see what everyone else is talking about. But this weight issue is something I think I can help out with. I, too, have put on a considerable amount of weight -- 40 lbs and I'm at 34 weeks.

I talked to my OB about it and she told me this: how much weight you gain is not as important as how big the baby is. If the baby is right on target growth-wise, she doesn't care how much weight I gain. If I gain too much and the baby starts to get too big, then that's a problem. So far, my belly has been measuring dead-on for where I am gestation-wise, so my doctor said nothing when I gained almost 10 lbs in two weeks.

She also explained weight gain like this -- a pregnant woman has little control over how much weight she will gain during pregnancy. The body is going to adjust your metabolism to gain the amount of weight it wants to. And so even if you're really counting calories and eating super-clean, your body may want to just put on additional weight for whatever reason. Of course, there are the extremes like certain celebraties who used their pregnancies as an excuse to eat nothing but donuts. Obviously, their bodies could only do one thing, which was to gain excessive weight. And so a certain amount of self-control is necessary. But craving milk, juice, fruit, and such is not a bad thing.

Additionally, a friend of mine who is a raw vegan gained 60 pounds with her daughter. That really put things into perspective for me. I had a hard time believing that someone who only ate plants could even eat enough to gain 60 pounds -- but it's another example of how the body is going to do what it wants to do.

Finally, there has been research that shows that women who lose a significant amount of weight and then get pregnant soon thereafter will tend to gain more than average during pregnancy. This is because the body uses the pregnancy as a way to store up what it needs. You really do not have any control over this.

For me, I saw so many stories of banded women gaining 10 or 15 pounds during their entire pregnancies, and so I got it into my head that I was only going to gain 20 lbs. Well, I've doubled that. God-willing, I will be able to breastfeed and that will help with weight loss. Nevertheless, I just had to give up control on this issue and accept the fact that I was going to gain more than the average (25-35 lbs). Of course, I am 6 ft. tall and the doctor also told me that someone of my height and stature is going to gain more anyway.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info Jpet. I am 6'0 too, but unlike you my doc has not been reassuring about the weight one iota. Since my first visit she has told me I need to stop gaining weight.. and now 60lbs later, she still makes quips. I am just keeping my eye on the prize, it will be over soon and like you I am hoping breast feeding will help take some of it off. I also need that re-fill!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
