Am I Missing Something???

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

In the past few months I have been reading a lot of message boards about lapband surgery (most are American) and I am starting to feel slightly worried that I am missing something big that I should be doing. It seems like so many people get refused surgery or are undergoing rigerous testing and diets before they can have the surgery.

In comparison, this process has been very easy for me and I really haven't had any obstacles- other than dealing with unsupportive people! :)

I went to the info seminar last year, then I got a referal from my doctor and then went to see a surgeon and I now have a surgery date- 22nd May!:w00t::mellow:

I have my insurance, I'll be going on Optifast for 4 weeks before surgery and I have another appointment with my surgeon 2 weeks before my surgery. Is there something else I should be doing or is it really this easy? :cool2:

Thanks for your input. :tt2:

Yep it really is that easy. As long as your insurance is past the 12 month waiting period you will be fine.

Good luck with the surgery, it will be the best thing that you have done.

I think in the USA it is much harder to get banded. It is much harder to get a fill as well. From what I have been told in the chat room, it is quite common for American Doctors to only give 1/2ml once every 4 weeks. I think that is crazy!!! To get to my 5.8ml it would have taken near on 12 months!! And they wonder why they aren't losing enough weight. I think their Doctors are sucking them dry, but what do I know?????

I only had one appointment with the surgeon before I was done.

Thanks for your responses guys! :(

That is a relief to know that I haven't missed any major steps along the way. The closer the surgery gets, the more nervous I am that something will happen to stop me being able to get the surgery or I will have forgotten to do someting. I think it is because I just want this so badly!!! :frown:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
