"They" don't all do that. My doc, at first, told me liquids 1 day, then mushie, then soft, then regular. It depends on the surgeon, the patient, and the amount of fill. The reasoning is that often getting a fill can agitate your stomach; just drinking liquids gives it a chance to calm down. My doc now just tells me to use my judgment as I advance...but he knows I do NOT want to PB and will be pretty careful. It's just a good idea to proceed slowly and cautiously.

Some advise a similar diet after you've PB'd...to give your stomach a chance to chill out, rather than further agitate it and make it swell up even tighter.

That makes sense. I was just wondering because I had my first fill friday and being on liquids for that long throws my blood sugar off and makes me dry heave all day, even with the nasty Protein bullets.

Are you diabetic? If so, isn't there something you can substitute (with doc's approval of course) like Glucerna?

I'd tell my doc about side effects if I were you! How did you get through the post op diet?

I'm hypoglycemic. They did test for diabetes and I didn't have it, but I have a massive family history of diabetes and hypoglycemia. My surgeon knows about it and the post op diet was ROUGH. I was pretty much not eating and living on phenergan until she allowed me to try mushies. Even with mushies I would constantly dry heave. My surgeon did another barium swallow and ct scan to be sure the band was still fine, it was. Once I started solids it all went away. I ate a couple tiny bites of grilled chicken tonight and immediately felt better, but now I'm sick again. I've tried glucerna and boost, neither of them help at all. I guess it's just something I'll have to tough out.

Doesn't juice help then....like apple juice or orange juice, something with sugar in it? If it's just low blood sugar, that should help it!

Any way, sorry it's so rough on you.

Yeah, it does. Just not for very long. It's driving me CRAZY! Especially when I'm sitting in class and dry heave and people look at me like I have 2 heads. Ever notice you always dry heave or pb or whatever your band does to you in the worst possible places?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
