You're both right and wrong.

There is another procedure called Vertical Banded Gastroplasty (VBG), which uses a non-adjustable band to restrict the stomach and create a pouch. It is NOT the same thing as lap-band, which is distinguished by being adjustable.

But, of course, the laparoscopic adjustable gastric band (AGB, LAGB, lap-band) is indeed approved by the FDA. It was approved in June of 2001. Proof of that should be easy to find, so if that's the only reason they're turning you down, you're in a good spot.

Possibly they will cover VGB. The way I ask was if this procedure is not covered. You say you cover gastric banding please tell me if there are any doctors in the area that do the procedure that you cover. They could not orwould not tell me.

Thanks

Just ask them if they can refer you to any bariatric surgeons in their network. Then ask the DOCTOR if he or she performs the procedure that you want. Most surgeons do more than one type of procedure, and it's not the carrier's job to keep track of that.

I don't know what the problem is, I have BCBS and they approved and covered my surgery. I was just forced to pay the out of network cost and my max out of pocket was $1500.00

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
