Banded 3/17, need some advice :)

Recommended Posts

hello all,

I was banded just yesterday, and I am extremely pleased thus far. I'm just a little sore, not really any gas pains or nausea whatsoever. I was banded in Lubbock, TX by Dr. Hall. The nurses in the hospital were happy about how quickly I got up and walking...their excuses for it was my 'youthfulness'. ;D

Anyway, I'm just a little confused about what I'm feeling. I really haven't felt hungry at all - but I think it's because I'm just so sore. I really don't think I have any restriction. I haven't had ANY problems getting any liquids down, even right after the surgery. I -could- take big gulps of Water and nothing would happen. I've been sipping Clear Liquids and eating Popsicles since yesterday, and have felt no 'fullness'...but whenever I don't eat, I just feel no hunger. Is this what I'm supposed to be feeling?

Sorry if I'm not wording this in the best way. I'm just wondering if this is normal. This site has been a blessing for me this past year...I would really love some feedback!

Hey Manda,

Everyone is different...some people wake up hungry and some people aren't hungry for a while after the surgery. I wasn't hungry for at least a week. Like tummy growling hungry. I did start to think about food but nothing like before.

You won't feel restriction until you start to eat real food. The liquid stuff just passes right through. Even then restriction doesn't come for some until after many fills.

I hope I at least sort of answered your question. I know I don't really feel full but I lose interest in coffee in the morning and I struggle to eat during the day because I just don't always want it but at night I have to fight myself to not eat too much lol

Good Luck! You'll figure it out as it comes :))

Congrats. I got my band on 3/9 Mon, I was up and about quickly; I am 51. My gas showed up on Tues. night. I still have not been hungry. For a few days the stomach is swollen from the surgery, also they pump in gas and I think that causes some of it, and your full feeling. It took forever for me to get down a Protein Shake that Wed. I had full liquids for a week and found myself a little weak on Sat. Had same on Mon. after starting mushies. You may be like me and don't have any Fluid in the band. My doc waits about 4 weeks before a fill to give stomach time to heal. He said I might even gain after starting solids. Get the fluids in and as much of your required Protein as you can. Good Luck!

Hi Manda,

I was banded on St. Patrick's Day as well. My surgery was great; walked shortly afterwards. I have been sore since I came home but am taking pain medicine for that. I do know what you mean about not being hungry and not feeling restricted. I have been drinking Water, apple juice and a Protein mix with water (not milk) to keep my energy up. Even though I have not felt hungry, I had signs my body needed the fluids- like my dry lips and mouth. We were banded on the same day and are having similar circumstances.. so, I guess that's normal for now. Good Luck!

i was banded on the 17th too, and im feeling the same way. i had no issues with the Water or broth they gave me at the hospital, or any liquids since. i havent really felt hungry either. i figured it was because i was sore, and the fact that id been on liquids for 5 days before.

i guess i'll see if i feel any different as more food is added in, instead of just liquids

You may not have any restriction. Some people here relate about getting Fluid added to their band at the hospital during surgery. However my doctor waited 2 months for the swelling to reduce before adding any fluid to my band. There technically was some restriction, but I could drink as much fluid as I wanted as fast as I wanted. Some food I would notice restriction more than others, but it was there. Even in this mode I managed to lose considerable weight before my first fill.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
