Vomiting 2 days after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I was just banded on Thurday. On Friday I suffered with some serious gas pain, but felt better late last night. Today I tried to drink one of my Protein shakes according to my diet plan from the Surgeon. I got about 1/3 of it down and two hours later I am now nauseous and have also vomitted twice.

Has anyone else experienced this? I feel horrible and I'm worried about hurting the band by vomiting.

Thanks for any help,

Alyson

Alyson, I feel bad for you. I was banded on Monday and also had loads of gas pain. I sometimes also felt nausea in the morning and in the evening. But the feeling came and went. So I never ended up vomiting. I think you should call your doctor right away about the vomiting.

I'm 7 weeks post-op. My surgeon said nausea is expected/normal (which I had the first week) but vomiting isn't. Call your doctor.

Like Everyone else said, you should call your doctor.

But, for ways to handle the situation until you can get to the doctor, try drinking everything room temperature, nothing cold because the day of my surgery in the hospital I took a drink of cold Water and was fixing to throw up with the nurse held a alcohol wipe under my nose. The feeling instantly went away. So I would try the alcohol wipe if you get that feeling again. She said that some people can't handle cold stuff yet. Now, 1.5 weeks post-op I can drink cold things again.

Hi Alyson, So sorry to hear your not feeling well. Instead of trying to drink maybe 1/2 or a 1/3 of your drink try sipping it. It took me about and hour to just finish 1/2 of my Protein Shake. I'm still wondering if I'm drinking enough? I was so glad to have met you Friday....that drink was the worst thing I have ever tasted, I thought I was going to lose everything when they finished. YUCK!!!! Take Care and I'm thinking of you often.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the replies. I ended up calling my doctor right after I posted this and she asked me to come into the ER right away.

There they gave me tons of Fluid and lots of anti nausea meds. I felt better, but now I have a fear of drinking any Protein drinks. I'm going to take it really slow today and see how it goes.

At least they sent me home with anti nausea meds so I can nip it in the bud if it happens again.

Hi Lyn,

That drink ws horrible, but somehow I managed to get it down ok. My nausea didn't kick in until the next day. So I was 3 days out before I felt really sick. I thought at that point I was safe- oh well.

I hope everything is going well for you. I was really happy to meet you the other day as well. It's nice to know that we're not going through this alone! Take care

Hi Alyson, how are you feeling now? I'm glad that you called the doctor and got the fluids you needed to feel better. It's been pretty good for me so far. It seems that the gas pains are finally kicking in now. I have hopes of taking a shower today, I'm thinking maybe the hot Water on my back will help with the gas pains? How are you doing with the liquids? do you want to here something really weird? Today while reading some posts here on this site I came across one talking about the nausea patch behind the ear. Well, It talked about the pupils of your eyes being different sizes because of the nausea patch..........I took a look and my right pupil is way smaller than the left eye. Never noticed it before. I'm not sure if I should call or not? Anyway, take care and take it real slow. O.k.?

Lynmcg---I noticed your comment about only one of your pupils being dialated...check one of the newer posts on the POST-operation forum...It mentions pupils being dialated and using a patch...just and fyi....:)

Oh by the way.....I am from Foxboro Ma, spent my summers in Chatham...we had a home growing up on Oyster pond...over by Stage Harbor...I will always be a Cape Cod girl!

Good Luck with everything...Kerrie

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
