wanting some company with the band

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

I was banded 9/24/08. I've been feeling kinda lonely though in my progress since I don't know of anyone else around me who has a lapband. That's why I've signed up there.

So far things are great, and thanks to a wonderful and super supportive husband I've been making it ok! I started at 209 pounds and am not loosing as quick as I want, but I am loosing safely. I am also a compulsive overeater (I think they've changed it to binge eater?) so this lap band has been a major adjustment - mentally. At least I am in therapy which is good. My therapist does not specialize in eating disorders, but at least she is helping me figure out why I binge. It is a major struggle on days that my mind wants to take over and binge because I simply cannot physically do that! That's where the lap band is saving me, but still it is a major disruption in the brain!

So far just looking at posts I know I'll get the support I need here from those of you who are experiencing the same things I am!

Hey Balletgirl

I know where you are coming from. I just got banded on 3-9-09. So I am still recovering. In five days I am down 8 pounds. Good start. I understand the mental effect this can have on you. Before surgery I was so emotional and cried a lot. The thought of not eating this or that ever again, really played hell on my mind. Even now, as the swelling in the stomach is going down I am getting hungry again. I am wanting all those great tasting things I had before. Then I remember why I am doing this. I have to really hold myself back. It is not easy. I joined on this site about a week before surgery, and it has been great to read others stuff like yours. The only place I haven't really thought to be helpful is the chat room. Rarely chat about lapband or anything. Wish it was a little more along the support line, but hey.

Well if you need someone to talk to feel free to contact me. I truly believe in having someone who has been through it to talk to. Best Wishes!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
