Post-Op, Pre-Fill Aggravation

Recommended Posts

I'm a week and a half post-op and I'm on a soft, mushy food diet. I've been working on getting at least 50g of Protein in a day but feel horrible that i'm able to eat about a cup to a cup and a half of food at a time, is that normal? My first fill is in 4 weeks and my main goal as of now is to not gain any of the 14 lbs I lost this past two weeks back. I'm just wondering how everyone got through this Post-Op, Pre-Fill time. I've stayed under 800 calories every day, Is a cup of healthy, protein filled food three times a day bad? I just need some back-up.

Welcome to the difficult time called Bandster's Hell. For some, they already have restriction right after surgery. But for the rest of us, we have to suffer through until we start getting our fills. So is it bad to eat 1 to 1 1/2 c of food per meal? Not in my opinion. You have limited restriction now that your swelling has gone down. You have lost an impressive amount of weight! Allow your body time to catch up. I personally would encourage you to increase your calories a bit so that you don't lose weight too fast. Try to keep an average of 2 lbs per week. The size of your meals will reduce when you get some restriction. Until then, just take it slow and steady. Please do not beat yourself up if you gain a pound or two now and then, that is to be expected. Remember, it is the average that is important.

Keep up the good work. You're doing great. God Bless!

My doctor said 3 1/2 cup meals. But I know what you mean. I'm starved. It stinks. I am going to try my hardest to stick to a half cup, but we'll see. Less than 800 is probably a lot less than what you had before, so I would say that is still good...

I think you are doing awesome. I'm just jealous that you can have mushies so soon. I'm a week out from surgery and on liquids for another week :scared2:. I think your food intake is good. Im usually hungry sooner than I like to be after eating or drinking a meal. Hopefully that will change when i move on to mushies. Keep up the good work girl!

Thank you girls for the support. I guess I just needed to get in check. By the way, ThinkinHealthy, Congrats on YOUR weight loss. I've heard of Bandster Hell, but I guess I thought I'd be fine until the first day of soft, mushies. Then I just thought I've been on liquids for two weeks and lost some weight but what happens when i get food in me? Nicanette, Your time is coming and it is so worth it to be able to at least get some substance. Every Doc is different which amazes me, but you're almost there! Princessmoni: I'm thinking the same thing you are. I'm sure that Pre-Surgery I consumed at least 2000 calories a day and so keeping it at around 800 should continue the loss, but who knows. I have yet to buy a scale and so I'm going to do that today and I've decided to weigh only twice a week, just so I don't get obsessed. We'll see how it goes when I weigh tomorrow, that will be 4 days on mushies. THanks for all the support girls.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
