So about how long was everyone out of work post-op? (please help)

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I am getting banded on the 6th of April and was wondering about how long I will be out of work. I know that it depends on what type of job you have, but I was wondering just about how long I should take off for. I usually only work fridays saturdays and sundays due to my school schedual. The day of my surgery is on a Monday, I was thinking about just taking off a whole week to be safe. what do y'all think? :w00t:

My recovery was about a week. I think for most people it's a wk. I guess it depends on your job if it would be longer or not. Good luck~! It's a fast recovery!

I agree, at least a week. It is very personal; depends on how well you handle everything...physically AND emotionally! Some pop up ready to go the next day (almost) and some take longer than a week to recover. A week is a good base guess!

I agree with the others. A good week to do things at a slower pace, get adjusted to a new "eating" schedule, and being able to rest when you feel tired. My surgery was on a Tuesday morning and I went back to work the following Tuesday morning. I have a desk job.

your responses have been very helpful..i have a semi-desk job...i'm a receptionest and a hostess...so during the day (if i'm there during the day) I sit up stairs & answer phones and what not...but at night i'm at the door seating people (& we are a 3 story restaurant). On fridays and saturdays i'm always at the door...but on sundays i'm mostly upstairs, but I will prolly ask for a week off...just to be safe.

I have a desk job. Due to unusual circumstances, I was back to work the next day. (I am the only person who knows my job). However, I worked from home. So, realistically, I was in the office the week after.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
