I took the first step....

Recommended Posts

I will be turning 50 in a couple of weeks and its time....I have been struggling with losing the weight and have made my first appt. for consulation for the Lap Band. Reading all of your blogs has been really helpful in deciding.

I have read on more then one occassion that you can't eat bread! is this true....can you believe that is the only thing I am worried about?

Thanks, Suzanne

Hi Suzanne, and welcome to LBT. Happy 50th, in advance!!

The bread thing is so individual (actually, it's that way with all the questionable foods). I'm at almost max fill in my band, and I can eat bread when I want it. I mostly stay away from doughy white rolls, because I don't want to take up space with non-nourishing food, but I can definitely still eat it, if I want to. I have no trouble with whole wheat bread either. I do take it slow, and take small bites and chew well, but that really works for me, because it stretches out my meal. Many people do have problems with bread, and unfortunately, it's one of those things you don't know ahead of time. I definitely can't take a big bite of bread and expect it to sit comfortably in my pouch.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
