Need Info on Lap Band Doctors, Got Any?

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

Today is my first day as a member of the website. I was denied the lap band about a week ago, because my BMI was 36 at the time with no Significant Morbidity. I have been extremely depressed every since I got the denial letter. I have Fibromyalgia, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, and Degenerative Osteoarthritis, so I feel like the weight is a significant added burden.

I am looking for a CHEAP doctor to do my lap band, since I may be paying for it out of pocket. I would even possibly consider going out of the U.S I was just worried that once I returned that no doctor would take over and do my fills for me. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE? THANKS

I would deeply appreciate any and all replies,

LivinWithFaith/KY:rolleyes2:

You are smart to line up fills locally BEFORE you get banded remotely.

Having said that, I believe there is a surgeon in Denver who does the band for about 10K (Kirschenbaum, I believe...enter his name on the site's search engine) He does NOT take insurance and just does self pay patients.

Don't let price be your only consideration though...

find a surgeon who you like and trust.

For example if you can find a local surgeon you like who will do your band for 15k (which is what my surgeon charges self pay patients) and he will include fills for a year (or two, or three) etc..then having someone close to home for any emergencies (they do arise for some) etc will be worth it. The fills and aftercare are as important as the surgery. So factor everything in before you pick a surgeon. Good luck!

Hi,

I had my lapband done by dr. Ponce de leon and dr. verboonen in Tijuana, Mexico, they're both great, nurses around the clock (the surgery is done at a completely equipped hospital, that made me feel more comfortable).

I paid $6,400....very reasonable and provided me with a list of fill doctors in the US.

Best of luck!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
