WLS card when going to restaurants?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, so I have a friend that had bypass, they gave her this card that she had a WLS surgery therefore she can order off the kids menu, and she can pay the childs price at a buffet.

Have you heard of this? DO they give you something similar with Lapband? or do I sound like a crazy nut right now???? lol

How is everyone doing today?

I'm scheduled to have the lap band in a little over a week. I was given one of those cards. I haven't used it, but definately plan to.

i was banded almost a year ago. i do have one of those cards but i've never had to use it. i order off the kid's menu (and pay the kid's price) without any problems at all from places like Denny's, Cracker Barrell, Friday's, Long Horn, etc. Don't forget... you can always order just an appetizer instead of a full meal (which you'll never be able to eat in one sitting ever again!)

I was given two cards after surgery, I cary one and have one put away. To date I have not had to use them. I always order off of the kids menu, and have not had any problems from the wait staff or restaurant. I have yet to try a buffet though.

We were told use the card and if someone said no don't go back. So far I have not used it either. I have not been out much. But I usually let my husband order and then I eat from his plate since you can not eat much now.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
