Hungry, Really hungry! Please help!

Recommended Posts

My stomach is growling and I want to eat. I am 8 days post-op and still on liquids/Isopure Protein drinks! Please help! I really want to eat something... Any suggestions? I even went as far to chew a french fry and spit it out thinking that would curb how I feel and it did not.

Thanks,

Lisa

I'm right there with ya!! I still have 4 1/2 weeks to go on a 6 weeks liquid diet. I am starving most of the time and was told by my doctor's office that I am getting adequate nutrition and to take up a hobby.

Best of luck to ya!

One day at a time ladies..... it will be over before you know it! Sucks going through it though. We are all here for support.

Deep breathing exercises helped me a lot.

Are you trying blended cream Soups? Progresso potato, broccoli and cheese, little milk added, blended LITERALLY saved my life. It's very hearty and sticks with you.

Also, hot and sour Soup. I LIVED on that stuff.

And other than that.....just hang in there. It sucks. A lot. A BIG LOT.

I just got a fill yesterday and PB'd today so I'm joining you on the liquids wagon..... :think :D

Hot and sour soup for ME tonight......

Popsicles and Jello worked for me , it made me feel as though I was eating instead of just drinking...also orange juice helped me alot to curb hunger, ut stayed with me along time, how about trying a different Protein Drink with more Protein in it, protein curbs hunger.

I stayed with my Mom for the first couple of days after surgery. She fixed me some ham Soup base. She just made it up like broth. The difference is that it was thicker & had the tiniest bits of ham (which we strained out). It was heaven. It filled me up & I had no more hunger pangs. She also had a chicken soup starter but I liked the ham better. Good luck & hang in there! It WILL get better!!........Jess

I agree, Soup and broth is what my Dr. reccomended. I had a frozen fruit pop the day after surgery, and then beef soup with veggies. I only ate the soup part. I still chew and spit the things I still want, like steak!!! I haven't figured out why some of us are on a liquid diet for 6 weeks and I was at solids on the 3 week. I have had no problems, just weight loss. 108 pounds since 4/15/05...

Do the soup and don't tell. Not hot and not cold. Don't hurry, just slow...

I lived on custard and rice pudding - but a think you guys aren't allowed carbs are you?

:( My Doc doesn't even ask what I am eating. I am only 2.5 weeks out and I am eating sandwiches!!! Oh well no doubt your scale will go down faster than mine :D damn slow australian scales!! A little booklet I got said that if you can suck it through a think straw you can have it in the liquid phase. Anyone for blended pizza?

Frankly, I can never understand this 6 weeks liquid thing. Do these docs just assume we have a lot of restriction and have the will power to go 6 weeks only on liquids. I realize that the first few weeks should be liquids to allow the band to achor properly without food disturbance. But I recall being so hungry by the end of week one that I wanted to eat my own fingers.

All I can say is that it is tough, but doable. I only had to do liquids for two weeks. and I was eating mushies by week 3 and solids by week 4. i dod not have a preop diet and ate right up to 12:00 midnight the day before surgery.

All I can say is do the best you can, listen to your docs post op food plan as best you can. Its sort of a rite to passage and it is definitely in your best interest to follow the post op plan the best you can to insure good bandster health.!

Please be careful & be strong. You do not want to do harm so early in the game. You will eat again & it will come sooner than later. Strained Soups - yes! Puddings-Yes! Protein drinks-yes! Popsicles-yes! Oatmeal(runny)-yes!Stir in a little low-fat jam. Cream of Wheat-yes! Be careful of hard candies(I know they helped Pat) but one wrong swollow & you could end up in the hospital if it gets stuck & can't be dislodged. You can do this- You are doing this & you will get through this. Hang in there & focus on the next stage you'll be entering. Things do get sooooo much better-promise!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
