Why is my band so picky?

Recommended Posts

Why is my band so picky? Some days I can eat, some days I can't eat. I don't think I'm eating things that irritate the band.

I have had 3 fills and have successfully lost 30 lbs post op sice my surgery, December 3rd. I have 5.8 cc's filled in my band. I was a little tight after fill number 2, but it loosened up after 2 weeks and was really tight immediately after fill #3 which was two weeks ago.

My problem is that my band has been real picky. I was so hungry last Friday, but I couldn't tolerate any solid food - not even mushies that day, until evening. I ended up eating 3 cups of Soup, had a milk shake (I hardly ever have those) and a few bites of mud pie. It all went down with minor problems. Why I couldn't eat any food until dinner time?

Saturday and Sunday, I couldn't stop munching on food. I had animal crackers and graham crackers dipped in milk and macaroni and cheese. Things went down fine. I even ate fish with very little problems.

Today, I am soooo hungry, but I tried to eat rice and Beans and after 3 bites, I PB'd it and I can't tolerate any other mushy food. I have only been able to keep liquids down.

This is really frustraiting!

You probably don't want to hear this, but most of the foods you are able to eat are slider foods, which makes me think you need a slight unfill.

You should be able to eat healthy foods...I would not consider milkshakes, mud-pies, and gram crackers as great nurtition.

You might want to talk to your doctor.

How long should I wait before I go in for an Unfill? It's been 2 weeks and I know that the fill usually loosens up after a while.

I would call my doctor today and geth their feedback. I would make sure to let them know about your food consumption the past two-weeks.

Rice and Beans are definitely not slider foods, they can get stuck easily. Most foods that are considered "sliders" are not good for you. Some popular slider foods are: potato chips & ice cream.

Cookies, ice-cream, liquid Soups (no solids), yogurt, chips (my favorite chips), milk-shakes, mochas/lattes depending what is in them.

Some slider foods are good, such as yougurt, but others are not and usually have high calories such as candy bars. You know melts in your mouth and slides right down.

I was instructed that if I couldn't move from mushy to solid foods within two weeks, that I needed to call for a slight unfill.

Each time you have an episode where you throw up you need to go on liquids for 24 hrs to let your stomach rest from the trama... and if you eat more Protein you will stay full longer....

I have noticed that I have tended to eat more mushy foods than solid foods lately, because they are pretty much all I can get down.

Slider foods to me means any food that slides down easy that is not good for you to eat. Any food that is healthy for you is considered mushy food to me. I don't consider rice and Beans slider foods because they have nutritional value, I consider them mushy foods. I do consider ice cream and milk shakes slider foods.

Either way, the Doc. told me not to get into the habit of eating mushy/slider foods only. The band should allow me to eat healthy solid foods.

Thanks for all the advice. I think I will call the Dr. and see if he wants to unfill me.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
