How long after deciding you were getting a lap band did you have to wait for it

Recommended Posts

I am going crazy waiting. In the last few days I have decided I am getting one put it. But due to financial constraints and also due to the fact I am going backpacking for 3.5 months in June , I have to wait until September! Its sooooo long away and I want it done now! I guess I will just have to be patient. At least when I am backpacking that will be a big distraction from the waiting.

Hi. I decided I was going to get the band, and went for my initial consultation on August 13, 2008. I had my surgery on September 19, 2008. I was self pay. September will be here before you know it. I think most people have to wait 6+ months for insurance guidlines, so they can probably give you more tips on the waiting than I can. Just keep busy and stay focused. You are so right... the backpacking trip will keep your mind off of the waiting and maybe you can even lose a little bit before you get your band. Good luck to you!!! Becky

I decided I wanted to get banded in April 2008 and my surgery date is March 9th, 2009. That's almost a year from decision time to surgery, it took that long to do all the insurance requirements etc. I kind of found it helpful because now that the date is almost here I feel like I have researched the hell out of it and know what I'm getting into. Also b/c I've worked so hard to make this happen I'm hopeful that I'll follow all the rules to a T.

I decided I wanted one in 2006. Two weeks before surgery, I was told it needed to be put off because of anemia. I ended up with a hysterectomy.

I put it off for two more years - then I hit the point where I couldn't deal with being me any longer.

In August 2008 I attended another informational seminar. I did the paperwork, jumped through all the hoops, and was banded in October.

I was a self-pay, so didn't have to wait for insurance which helped speed things along.

Good luck, and have fun backpacking.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
