On two week post op liquids

Recommended Posts

On two week post op liquids, can I drink when I 'eat?' For instance, I just had a bowl of Soup, is it ok to drink with that? Or does that rule kick in mostly with mushies? I know this one is going to be a tough one for me since I drink a lot while eating. Thanks in advance.

That's a good question. My doctor's office gave me a binder full of information for post-op. During the puree stage of our diet is the first time I see the instructions about drinking while eating. That is when we can have mushy food like, scrambleed eggs, pureed fruit, canned tuna or chicken, etc.

So, the way I understand it, during that week is when we begin to practice not drinking before, during and immediately after a meal.

Hugs,

I was told not to drink during my "meals" in the liquid stage. The idea is to fill your pouch with nutrition during these meals, Water or other drinks would take up space in your pouch and you could be taking in less nutrition.

Nakniwa, Jody is right about taking up valuable space right now, but also consider this.....now is the time you should be working on those pesky rules so that they become second nature by the time you CAN eat more substantial things. This is especially true for those things that you think will be more difficult for you to do. Good luck!

My doctor recommended not drinking during that phase -- but the purpose was more to get you used to that new rule than because of anything else. Soup is going to go right down anyway.

Best wishes! Don't get frustrated during "bandster hell"! Happens to everyone and you'll be past it and back to losing in no time! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
