Recommended Posts

So, i am planning on doing the lap band very soon..still in the beginning processed, but i was wondering..after the surgery, are you allowed to swallow any pills? i take birth control pills for my PCOS and they aren't very big, but wouldn't they get stuck? just curious..thanks!

My doctor took me off my bc because it increases the risks of blood clots after surgery.

And after having surgery yesterday, I can't swallow pills due to swelling.

Just stuff to keep in mind.

All the pills I take are about the size of bc pills, maybe a tad bigger--I've had no problem taking any pills at all. My surgeon said nothing bigger then an M&M. Check with yours at the pre-op testing

nothing bigger then an M&M, OK but do you have to take them one at a time spread over time or can I take all 8-10 at once like I do now???

personally, I take all three at once. But thats' me! You see it everywhere on this board--Everyone Is Different!

Some people have problems with tiny pills, I can take anything (I've only had one fill-so maybe that will change)

I had to skip my blood pressure pills for a few days right before surgery--check with your surgeon

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
