Losing in all the right places??

Recommended Posts

Ok so I did the whole process to get the lap band and finally had my surgery on 1/6/09. It is by far one the best things that I have done (besides having my kids), but this was totally for me. I am very happy and am losing nicely (for me). I have lost 35 pounds since banding. But I have one question/comment and am looking for others who may be going thru the same thing, or have a suggestion. I am clearly losing weight as evidence by my scale...but it seems that it is not everywhere. I am definately losing above the belly button (upper body). I can see lose in my face, hands, feet, and upper body, but I do not see or feel it in my lower body. I still have a very large (as I call it dunlap..the fat portion that hangs down below your belly) And although I can fit in smaller shirts, my pants size still has not changed. Any help??

I am about the same as you are. I was banded 1/30, and have lost about 26 since then. I still wear the same pants as before, but they have gotten alot more loose. If you were like me, you were probably wearing pants that were too small for you before the band. I am just starting to get to the point were the pants will have to go soon.

Have you needed to move a notch on the belt?

I was banded on February 13th, 2009. I've lost about 25lbs. and I too am losing weight from my face, neck, feet...but I am also losing in my stomach and my 'dunlap'. Actually, that's the been the the biggest area that I can tell the weight loss is that little pouch beneath my stomach. It must just be that everyone is different...plus, it might depend on where you tend to gain weight. As I was getting really heavy, the last place I noticed myself gaining weight was that little pouch...so it kind of makes sense that it's the first thing to go :tt1: I guess we get small in the exact reverse that we got bigger :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
