Yes Mariela!!! Change doctors now!!! I too had Dr. Owens because I read that he had so much experience, but I wish I had chosen a different Dr.! I had my surgery done by him at Rancho Specialty hospital and every aspect of it was terrible! not only was the staff completely incompetent, but Dr.Owens cut a blood vessel during my surgery and I bled internally(I could have died!)I highly reccomend you find a new doc.!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Mariela,

I called alot of different physicians and finally made an appointment with Dr. Owens. I had my lap band with Dr. Owens in April of 08 at Rancho Hospital. I just love him. It was slow losing weight at first and I was a little discouraged. Today I weigh in and I’ve lost 101 lbs!! I’m very close to my goal. I rarely think about food anymore even though i know that it's harder for some others. When I do, I’m very conscious about what I eat. I loved the support group there too but i don't get to go that often, but i make sure i at least walk everyday and i always try to remind myself that i can't take any of this for granted. There's a few others on this site that went to Dr. Owens too.

Good luck with your journey!

Hi Mariela,

I had Gastric Bypass by Dr. Owens at Rancho Specialty Hospital June 30, 2008. I am so glad that I chose him to do my surgery! He was so nice at my consultation and the hospital staff were so patient and kind to me! I was so nervous before surgery but the support you get is incredible! Dr. Owens gives all his patients his cell phone number in case you have any questions! Ive never had a doctor give me his personal phone number before!

I hope your surgery goes just as smooth as mine, let me know when you get home!

I am having the lap band procedure done in this morning at 7:30 am. Dr Owens is my surgeon and I am looking forward to it. Chapman Medical Center is the hospital. I am a little nervous and hoping all goes well. I am doing the lapband to help get my diabetes under control. 3/27/2009

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
