I had port revision one week ago and they put 4.5 in my 10 and (1st fill ever) and by monday, I had to have 2.5 removed b/c I was throwing up all weekend. Then today, I had a complete unfill cause I cannot keep Soup down. Please help. Are you supposed to throw up afer fills? Is my band failing me? __________________

Hi:

My surgeon recommends fluids only for first 24 hours after fill, then mushies next 24 hours after fluids only to help your body adjust to a new fill.

You are not supposed to throw up after fills.

If you are slowly introducing fluids and then mushies after a fill you probably are too tight still. Keep in mind that some people have restriction without ever having a fill. Some people don't need a fill until they've lost 70 pounds. It varies tremendously between individuals.

I hope you find your comfortable zone soon.

Take care.

Sue

Also, chances are you, when you had your overfill and started throwing up, you got some swelling around the band area, and that's why you ended up needing a complete unfill. It's very good that you didn't let this linger, and took care of it right away.

I wouldn't be worried about getting fills in the future, because your doctor will know to take it slow, and you'll know to introduce solid foods very cautiously. I'm sure your band isn't failing you. Good luck, and I hope you're feeling better soon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
