Let's Talk Movie Review

Recommended Posts

I haven't come across a thread like this...maybe I'm wrong.

Born from my Facebook Movie List note, I realized I watch way too many movies...and I'd like to know what ya'll think of movies that you've seen.

Recently I saw "He's Just Not That Into You" and I hated it. Not all of it, but most of it...I liked the uptight wife who threw the mirror and then cleaned it up. But overall the movie was really not what I expected.

I expected it to follow the premise of the book, and I thought it'd be more of a chick-bonding flick than a sappy love story (or a few of 'em). The stories depicted proved the "exceptions" rather than "rule", which is what the book tried so hard to convey.

I also expected more from the Drew Barrymore character - I like her in movies and she fell flat in this one.

Thoughts? Movies?

I'd just like to see something that's not a kiddie movie, lol.

Actually I did see Valkyrie recently, that was great. Really suspenseful.

Havent seen Australia despite being an Aussie. Cannot. Bear. Nicole. Kidman. Seriously, she used to be gorgeous, she was a frecklefaced redhead, real girl next door stuff, she had something about her. Till she erased it all with too much cosmetic surgery and went all Hollywood, so disappointing. I just cant watch her anymore. Cant stand Russell Crowe either - he's what we would call a bogan here, which is not a compliment. its something like trailer trash.

How did Mel Gibson become americanised and not become so awful to watch? (not that there's anything wrong with Americans, its just that aussies trying to be American is cringeworthy) He's just funny. But he was WAY cuter when he spoke with an Aussie accent! And when he wasnt like 100 years old, lol.

Oops, got a bit off topic.

Actually Mr Jachut and I are really into British Murder Mysteries - would rather put on a Taggart or a Midsomer Murders on the dvd player than shell out for the crap at the movies these days.

I have an Aussie friend (from Adelaide) who saw Australia and thought it was the biggest piece of crap he'd seen. Which is a shame, cause it did look like it had the potential to be good.

I like all types of movies...from the chick flicks, to the epics, to the blow 'em up and flash your boobies kind of movie.

I liked Nicole Kidman in Peacemaker, but nothing else really appealed to me.

Same with Russell Crowe in Gladiator. Yum. He doesn't have to speak or act, really...just glisten.

Don't know much about the murder mysteries. What would you recommend for a newbie to those?

Lol, well you know you're seasoned when you can watch Taggart and understand what they're saying (Scottish accents). Therrrrre's bin a mudda!

I love Taggart, I think you can buy the DVD's online through Amazon.< /p>

And its really funny coz DH and I laugh at how ugly scottish people are. But really, its just that they havent had their teeth whitened and their wrinkles filled and their skin shrinkwrapped, their bosoms pumped and their hair made big like everyone in Hollywood.

Gladiator - great Russell Crowe flick!

I think that I heard Mel Gibson's father moved his whole family to Australia during the draft of the Vietnam War, I could be wrong it's something I have way back in my memory somewhere.

I have a hard time with my Aussie friend's accents! And they think they don't have one! LOL

I like movies like Snatch and other movies w/brogues and I admit, I have to rewind it to hear again what they've said. My ears aren't that good!

Thoughts? Movies?

I love the movies, but don't get to the theater very often. My kids tend to monopolize my time when I'm not working, and the closest movie theater is about 45 miles away. So, when I do get to the movies, it's usually something kid-based.

The most recent movie I saw was "Hotel for Dogs", if that tells you anything.

Thank goodness for netflix!!

Let's see the last few we have went to see were

Seven Pounds---was not what I expected, and I left the theater in deep thought about the movie, but all in all I really liked it.

Gran Torino---Dh and I both liked it. The people in the theater actually applauded when the movie ended, and there was not an open seat in the theater.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button----I found slow, and it was made to be a realistic movie, and yet no one questioned his aging issue....I had a hard time with it. Was glad we saw it on a dollar night bargain movie.

I want to go see Taken next, or Reader.....but life is not cooperating with me seeing movies right now!

No, I dont have an accent. I checked!

Oh but isnt a good Scots or Irish accent sooooooo sexy?. And the men are all so rugged and ruddy and sandy haired, siiiiigh. Beats the heck out of white teeth pretty boys like Tom Cruise.

I forgot, I saw Benjamin Button. I think I might have enjoyed it but I had to take Eliza and we spent more time in the toilets than we did watching the movie. I liked the concept, even though its unrealistic. Same as I love reading anything where time travel is involved, the convolutions and possibilities fascinate me.

Actually, speaking of Irish accents we watched In the Name of the Father the other night on DVD - that's a REALLY good movie.

I just got done watching some rentals. Gone in 60 Seconds -- better than I was expecting -- and Pursuit of Happyness -- which was about what I expected, which is to say a bit too earnest for me, but still engrossing.

Dude! Where do you live?

And...kid movies count. I really like Over the Hedge and many, many others. :blushing:

How was that? I wanted to see that, actually.

Seven Pounds:

What was that about? I don't even know enough about it to have an idea what's it's about. All the things I've seen on it are kinda cryptic.

Gran Torino:

Okay, now I must see that. I was afraid I'd be embarrassed for Clint - he's one of my all time favorites. :cursing:

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button:

The whole premise sounded too hard to pull off. Waiting for video for that one. :tongue2:

Taken & Reader:

I've heard of Taken and really want to see that.

Reader I've never heard of - what's that about?

No, I dont have an accent. I checked!

I believe you, mate.

Oh but isnt a good Scots or Irish accent sooooooo sexy?. And the men are all so rugged and ruddy and sandy haired, siiiiigh. Beats the heck out of white teeth pretty boys like Tom Cruise.

Oooh...yeaaah. I love me some rugged, real men.

I do, too, if the movie can pull it off and make it something you can think about later.

How old is Eliza? My mother says when I was little I had to try out every bathroom every where we went at least 3 times.

i rented my best friend girl ...with kate hudson it was cute

and lakeview terrace with samuel l jackson that was good

I love Kate Hudson. I think she's a stereotypical actress and always plays the same roles, but she's cute and fun. I liked Almost Famous and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

I haven't seen Lakeview...I have a feeling it's the kind of movie that would make me angry. Will I have a good feeling at the end, or no?

I just got done watching some rentals. Gone in 60 Seconds -- better than I was expecting -- and Pursuit of Happyness -- which was about what I expected, which is to say a bit too earnest for me, but still engrossing.

Gone was good! I really like the thrill of it, even though you're routing for the thiefs! I like movies that can twist it and you end up routing for the "bad guys."

Pursuit - That's not the kind of movie I normally get into. I thought it would be slow and no action, but it was on tv one day and I started watching it and fell in love with it.

And, at the end that sippet about the real life guy...I had no idea it was based on a real person. How inspiring!

Okay, I'm multi-quoted out and need a nap! :tt1:

Taken was pretty good. Lots of action and a good plot. Creeps me out about sending my kids on vacation alone though.

I want to see Gran Torino as well. Hubs and i went on Valentines day but by the time we got into the actual theater it was so packed that the only seats left were front row. We opted to exchange tickets for another movie and saw The Wrestler instead. It wasn't bad but wasn't great either. And I hated the ending.

Dude! Where do you live?

Why, 45 minutes southwest of Texarkana, Texas. If you want to mapquest it, the community is Douglasville, Texas 75551....be prepared for some podunk-ness.

"Hotel for Dogs" - pretty good. It was every bit as laff-a-licious as a movie that's about recently orphaned siblings and euthanization of dogs can be!

Kid movies I've loved - All the "Shrek" movies....but for my money, the best was "Hoodwinked"

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
