How much does the band itself cost

Recommended Posts

I am going to have a EGD done soon to see if i have reflux and a hiatal hernia.I am pretty sure I do.I am hoping that if I do i can get it repaired and including the lapband as secondary. My insurance has an exclusion on WLS.

I don't know the actual cost of the band.

It seems highly unlikely that they would do a hernia repair as a primary and just tack on a band. I have never heard of this before, but I do know that it goes in the opposite direction where they add a band and fix a hiatal hernia as a secondary.

Please let us know how it goes and what they say.

i have kind of done some digging around and was told that this was possible.the first step was to get the EGD done.Reflux is my primary issue.get it repaired which would take outpt surgery anyway.

I was told this is possible. But, frankly the insurance company decides how much of the procedure is for the band versus the other, and after prorating everything it would have cost me more.

Why?

Because the cash pay route for the lapband procedure using cash was cheaper then using insurance. Using insurance made the same exact procedure cost more, therefore the part the insurance company would pay was eaten up by the cost difference of cash pay versus insurance. This is why many places advertise a "cash price"....it isn't the same as what they charge the insurance company.

This may not be true for all places that perform the lapbands, but it was in my case?

It is like that everywhere. My sister and I used the same Dr. But she paid Cash and I had Insurance. She paid 15,000 cash and had 1 yr after care for free and Cigna paid 32,000 for mine and have to pay for all my fills. So if I had to pay 50% of that I would have been paying the same as someone paying cash.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
