Anyone been punched where their port is?

Recommended Posts

I can't help but ask - has anyone been punched or even poked in a less than mild fashion where their port is?

I personally don't make a point of getting into fights LOL but I can't help but wonder what the effects would be of taking a fist to the port! OUCH!

Anyone?

I haven't, but the effects could be pretty bad! It could rip the stitches and port pops loose, it could pop the port off of the tubing (rendering it useless), or cause internal bleeding if it gets shoved into something. These are just some things that come to mind.

At the minimum, it would be very painful :/

I'd recommend avoiding this.. obviously.

For one of my jobs I care for an autistic 11 year old. One afternoon recently he accidently kicked me in the port site. I guess it would probably be like kicking a man in his area. lol. not fun.

I box... for fitness not money... getting hit in your port hurts like hell (you learn to block it)... kidna feels like getting punched with a pocketwatch in your shirt pocket (I guess that example works

My doc says I run the risk of jarring my port loose, but not a major one... and he advised me to live life just as I did before, only skinnier. That is my advice as well.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
