I was banded on 9-22-08. I had lost 35 lbs and now I have gained back about 2-3. I am supposed to go the Dr for the monthly check up ( I am ashamed to go since I have gained the 2-3 lbs). I had my first fill on 11-11-08. I can eat more than the 1/2 to 1 cup of food I can eat more like 1 1/2 to 2 cups. I have been able to eat that much for about 3 weeks now. Depending on what I have eaten I will get hungry in about 2 1/2-3 hours. I will admit that for the last few weeks I have not exercised. I am not lying when I say no time. The company I work for has had mandatory overtime I have been working about 50-55 hours for the last month and then I go to school full time (not making excuses it is just the way it has been).

So here are my questions:

1. Do I need a fill?

2. Have I stretched out the stomach?

Sounds to me like you need a fill.

As far as stretching out your stomach, it's hard but not impossible to do. It does take some time. I would think you're most probably okay, especially if you feel like the food is going through the band, and you're not getting stuck or pb'ing, but the doctor can check if he's doing your fill under xray.

Becky,

Don't feel bad, the whole reason you got the band was so that you wouldn't feel so embarrassed. Go to your appointment and ask for a fill--clearly you need one! That way, you will have the restriction that will help you lose the weight, and you'll be moving in the right direction again.

Can you maybe go for a 20 minute brisk walk at lunch time? (I can certainly relate to working too many hours, I typically work 60 or more per week!)

Thanks for the replies! I only have a 30 minute lunch and by that time I am famished. Most of the time I have Soup (tomato) for lunch and I do add cheese to it. When I get my breaks I am running to the bathroom. I will admit that when I finally at home I eat supper and then I will have a snack of one of the following of yogurt (greek mixed in with yoplait), 100 cal snack pack or oatmeal. Here latley if I eat meat it tends to get stuck (I know I am eating too fast in order becaused I so rushed for time) I have been drinking a lot of coffee just to keep me going.

I am hoping that with in the next week the OT will be done for the year!!

Becky,

Number 1 don't be ashamed to go to the doctor. They are doctor's they see this kind of thing everyday. You sound like you need a fill but you do need to try and incorporate some exercise into your week. The band is a tool, a tool that you must work with as well. Exercise has to be a piece of this tool, and most would agree with me on that.

Congrats on being an advocate for your health and identifying that you have a problem but don't let embarrasment hinder you from getting the things you need.

Good luck and remember we are all here for support.

Yep, sounds like you need a fill. Don't be ashamed to go to your doc. Follow up care seems to be directly linked to success! Keep your chin up! My doc told me this week even just walking 15-20 minutes a day is enough at first, so find the time to get that in (I need to lecture myself too...I have trouble making time for exercise. How's the old saying go? Those who cannot make time for exercise must eventually make time for illness?)

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
